I just watched an episode of "The Force: Essex" on Youtube. I was surprised to see a Deteniton Officer booking a suspect in. It looked like a small custody suite and it didn't look like there was a custody sergeant there. I didn't think this was allowed, I thought a custody sergeant had to authorise detention. What was going on and is it common? Link to episode:

Right, I'm going to put this out there because it really baffled me during a s.23 drugs stop on a vehicle. Neg result on the search, however a tobacco tin containing hundreds of fizzy drink can ring pulls was located (the bit that opens the cans) stashed in the vehicle. I know what they can be used for with shopping trollies, however are there any other nefarious uses for these seemingly useless bits of tin?

Having finally got confirmation of training, I'm particularly looking forward to the OST week - I'm aware of the need to be fit for the job, and I wanted to ask: How do you like to stay fit? Are there any exercises that you'd recommend as particularly useful?

Good evening all As a new officer I've taken a look into the scales and I'm fortunate to take home the S/E additional on-top of a starting £22k p/a My question is this; what does shift allowance equate to? As I understand it, this is added for working anti-social hours and is then complimented by any overtime we work. Thanks in advance Renz

Over the past few weeks I've been keeping an eye on some of the stories in the media - some of which directly quoted from senior officers. Some of which words misconstrued, but with negative connotation. A selection of which: - Not targeting thieves under £100 - A force telling the public they don't pursue criminals on two wheels (motor cycles, mopeds etc.) - Private 'police force' - Private security firms targeting areas of high criminality and consulting with residents on providing local services - Traffic units depleted - Paedophiles 'not to be jailed' - Drug users to get funding from proceeds of crime to feed their habit This is not an exhaustive …

Where else in the world has a volunteer police service like our Special Constabulary? My work colleagues from other European countries just don't get how I can be a part time cop in my spare time and choose when I go on duty. I'm sure there must be other countries that offer similar although I doubt on the scale we do in the UK.

Hi there, I currently serve as a special constable and was curious as to what people's views are on intervening whilst off duty. I've seen quite a lot around about being a key witness rather than intervening unless lives were in danger, which I totally understand. However, sometimes i'm in situations that I think to myself "Should I do something or say something". For example in a club I often get a guy come up to me and offer to sell me a plethora of drugs, I can quite literally see them as he shows off the little packets of what are usually pills or some form of Class A. A couple of years back the idea was floated that response teams had to be ~70% Lv2 trained in case of force mobilisations, what with ERPT being the large scale 24hr department on boroughs. I take it this never happened then?

Hi All, Im sure most of you are aware that the home office has approved the roll out of the new Taser X2 model which allows for two shots. Ive been looking at Taser international's website (makers of the taser) to learn a bit about the x2, the taser is black in colour on their website and promo video. Does anyone know: When issued to officers here, will the taser be black in colour or will they have it cased in yellow? Just curious to know?

Interestingly, I have just been made aware that SCs and S/Sgts can now join The Association of Special Constabulary Chief Officers, for the grand sum of £5, ive scoured the website but im struggling to find out why you would, or why they would let you. The only thing I thought of was in relation to the Special Constables National Alliance which recently did the rounds, but it seams eventually disappeared as far as I can see.
