Just for information, I'm wondering if anyone can give some insight into the day-to-day running of a response driving course (police, ambo, fire, etc). Not looking for too much depth, just a brief overview (Day one - intro to roadcraft. Day two - method of car control) for instance. Cheers

Hello all I am new to the forum so please be gentle. I have been interested in becoming a special constable for several years though never had the time, though a recent change in circumstances has given me the opportunity to apply. In my day job I am a emergency medical technician (now on part time) and I was wondering if my emergency driving qualification is transferable or even partially transferrable to the police?. I hold IHCD level 3 emergency response which was a 3 week, nationally recognised course and an 'in house' training module within the trust for driving response cars which was 2 days. Thanks

I won't link to it on here but it was quite successful and is being used by many officers up and down and country. I gave up the Specials a few years ago when I took a job in my forces SSD so am a little out of touch with everything that goes on whilst on duty. I'm interested to hear whether anyone has any ideas for any mobile apps that would be of use when either on duty or preparing for tests such as the JRFT. Moving on from the fox hunting topic, we all know that trespass is a civil matter at common law where land owners can request a person leave their land or property and if a person refuses they become trespasses and liable to ejection using reasonable force or civil action. Does this area of law need reforming? Meaning does the offence of trespass need criminalising in the form of statute law? I.e At the point a person refuses to leave another's land or force has to be used to remove them should that person face summary action at the local magistrates? It makes sense to me, it would solve numerous problems in relation to protesters, urban explorer types etc…

I'm looking at sourcing some form of night vision technology for a response field. Searching for missing people etc Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or recommendations. Obviously it's highly budget dependant and you have come up with a few ideas but I thought I would check with others.

I would like to think I'm fairly competent at reading legislation, interpreting it and applying it. I'm known for my knowledge being of a generally high standard (Jack of all trades master of sod all). But I've been looking at the Policing and Crime Bill with regards to pre-charge bail and frankly the bill is incredibly difficult to read and is a mess. Can anyone point me to somewhere that has discussed the specifics in plain English? There's also a hell of alot of change in the rest of the bill. In the light of one force possibly trialling the testing of drugs in nightclubs for 'safer' consumption it has got me wondering: should we begin to make illegal drugs legal? I have dealt with people for possessing drugs and still consider it a crime to have illegal drugs as this is written in statute but should the laws be changed? Some of the reasons for changing the laws is that the government could make millions from doing it and also is the'safe' use of conventional illegal drugs actually worse in all cases than excessive use of alcohol? 100% not pro drugs at all but would rather hear the opinions of several people on this! -

A very general and open question, but very relevant to policing; how do you "switch off" after work? I have in the past struggled with this, but as time has gone on and certain issues have sorted themselves out this has become less of an issue for me. Curious to see how others deal with this, especially after a busy, demanding and traumatic tour of duty. Hoping the answers may help others also

Hi Everyone, Wondering if you can help me, its quite a specific question to be honest. I applied for both a Regular and Specials role for Lancs Constabulary at the tale end of last year, and I have a specials assessment this week at Lancs HQ Hutton. My problem is that, despite being pretty healthy & 24 Years of age, I managed to somehow pick up guillain-barré syndrome early December, and didn't realise till the tail end of December where I had almost full paralysis of both of my arms.
