General Policing Discussions

Hiya, I am currently approximately half way through the recruitment process and I'd love to experience a ride along. I've attempted to make contact with Derbyshire Constabulary but had no response and I can't find any information on their website so I'm assuming they don't offer them. I've been watching a few of the newer TV shows that require 1) police 2) cameras 3) use of word 'elite', I've been noticing more and more handcuffing to the front in the palm to palm postion. Does anyone do this? I've always been taught not to cuff that way, and if you are cuffing to the front it should be a stack, but im wondering if that is force dependant? Thoughts?

HI All, Can anyone help. The other day i started my shift and signed onto my radio and pressed 1 to say i was on shift which is what i was told to do. Later i used the radio to contact control who dealt with my request but the contacted me saying that i wasn't showing as on duty. Do i need to radio control and tell them im on duty or just press 1 like i have been doing.

Its been a while since I have been on here. If I had behave like this back when I was still in the job, I think I would have been suspended on the spot. Any thoughts?

What was everyone's first duty like?

Bit of an odd one but my main local force near to me has moved on to a super custody model that has incorporared the surrounding city & towns that historically used to have their own custody suites. Over the past few months we have noticed when we arrest for something fairly low level or simple - D&D, Public Order ect many of the custody sergeants are now asking that we report persons for summons instead of charging them to court. So in the case of a D&D they will hold him in the cells until sober and then have us report him at the desk and release for the file to be completed 'slow time.' Yet again the subject of UK Police being armed has cropped up in another thread. It got me wondering. Imagine if you please. The decision has been made by government. The UK police will become a routinely armed police force. You are given the role of implementing this change. How would you go about it? In what order would you arm officers? What would you arm them with? What would you do with officers that didn't want to be? Would you make it compulsory? How many years would you set yourself to have every officer in the country armed? I currently hold a provisional licence, and am yet to take my first driving lesson. I know the law is that if I go out on the roads outside of a lesson, I require a passenger who has held a full driving licence for over 2 years, and be over the age of 21 - in addition to displaying L plates. My question is this; If I was driving with my mother, and she got out of the vehicle in order to navigate me into a parking bay a metre or two behind, and the police were to flash blues at this point - would my driving/parking of the vehicle be fully legal?

Quite simply, what is your travelling distance to the station where you parade for duty? (specials and regulars) Mine is 11miles each way. Im asking out of interest as today, whilst on a training course, a colleague revealed his DAILY drive is 90miles each way and can take up to 2hrs 20mins! Can anyone beat that?
