I was hoping someone could confirm. I recently ready somewhere that the South Eastern Allowance provided to Herts,TVP,Essex, Kent, Surrey has increased from £2000 to £3000? So, As above really! I think with a hopeful future career change it would be beneficial for me to pick up a second language, and due to the area I'm thinking Polish. I'm asking if anyone has any experience with online learning, or would classes or 1 on 1 be better? I'm not looking for degree level stuff, conversational and reading it would suffice really. I'm completely out of the education loop, and the last time I studied a language was 20+ years ago. Hi there. I am a probationary constable but I have decided to leave due to a number of factors, mainly financial. I have a good job on offer to me, but it hinges on how long my notice period is and nowhere in my contract does it tell me. Does anyone know what the notice period is, if any, for someone still in their probation period?

Hello, Been a while since i posted on here as was moving from somerset back to milton keynes. However this was well over 9 months ago. Before i moved i got rejected from Avon and somerset during vetting, i got to milton keynes and applied for bedfordshire police. Passed everything once again but before vetting i had applied to do the thing where you get to go follow the police around for a while. However i suddenly got rejected from that which then in turn also rejected my application. I'm just curious to what your most scary / worrying moment has been as a police officer, how you coped at the time and how you got over it after.

What driving courses have you completed and how beneficial has it been when on duty? We have the opportunity for a non operational driving assessment prior to training followed by the 1 day basic operational course later on. Also had the chance to complete skid pan/ice hill training.

Everyone's favourite subject I'm sure. Can anyone confirm our powers of detention and if necessary use of force in relation to juveniles? Assuming they're not wanted and are not committing offences. 1. If they're in local authority care? Are we allowed to detain if required and force them to return to a/their "place of safety"? 2. If they're not in care but have gone missing from their family home (assuming there's no disclosure meaning you can't return them)? Or would you ring parents tell them the location of their child and leave it to them (sorting out the safe and well check at your leisure)? I was driving on the A1 and I saw a tractor with an amber and a green flashing light. I thought however, could be wrong that only Doctors can display a green light in their vehicles.

So this is a pretty personal matter and just want to ask what everyone else thinks about it. I have been suffering from mild/severe acne now for the last 6 years, been on all medication but nothing so far has worked, ill hopefully going on roacutane later on this year which i hope will work. my question really is, will i still be treat the same in the police force just as much as everyone else even though i suffer from acne? hopefully other officers out there suffer the same condition as my and can relate.

Hello All i am new to the forum. I am due to start my specials training in November with TVP. I have a question regarding arresting in hospitals; in particular within the Emergency Department. My full time job is a nurse within ED and we often get drunk aggressive patients who sometimes assault staff and shout/ swear etc. How do the police go about arresting someone who is drunk and aggressive and has punched a nurse? Do you have to take them out of the cubicle into the waiting room for a public order offence to apply etc? Just really interested to know the intracasies of it. Thanks in advance! FN

An interesting discussion a few weeks ago in the PCSO thread had me wondering what peoples opinions were on Private Bodies/Authorities appointing their own Constables for the purpose of protecting certain areas/locations. Somewhere that springs to mind immediately would be Canary Wharf - their security at the moment verge on impersonation and ride a very fine line but the area they are employed to protect realistically requires arguably more than just basic common law/any person powers afforded to Security Guards.
