IT security and security in general is an interest of mine. One of the things I always found flawed is the use of warrant cards. For them to be useful to authenticate the identity of the bearer, they need to be of a known format and hard to replicate. Everyone knows what a driving licence looks like, so if it looked substantially different, even if it's not dismissed out of hand, the person doing the authentication is much more likely to take extra steps to verify. Hi all, I've recently attested as a special and will be based at a busy central city station. My tutor phase is with a regular PC, and due to the times I can volunteer being Friday nights and the weekend, I believe I will mainly be on 'NTE' type shifts. I have been told these will probably be 20:00-04:00 for me. Basically, what should I expect? I've been a student myself so I'm well aware of the drinking culture we have in this country lets put it that way! Is it going to be all public order related? As a regular, I often have the pleasure of working with SC's and amongst the many things we discuss during a shift is 'how protected do you feel if you were subject to a complaint?' I've found that many don't give the position much thought, which strikes me as bonkers given the ever increasing scrutiny and our increasing reliance on Special Constables. Well, it's that time of year that the annual Brooklands emergency services day is almost upon us. If you've not been before it's a great event to go to (and take your family too). This year will see policing contingents from Surrey, BTP, Met, and RMP. This is alongside every other responder service including Ambulance, Fire, Search and Rescue, Bloodbikers, and many more. Im thinking of joining the Met when im 20 or hopefully even 19. I am currently in the cadets. Anyway i was just wondering what the uniform is like. i know they have introduced these wicking shirts ( yes they have been around a while i know) but have they completely replaced the originial short sleeve shirt or can you still get issued with the traditional short sleeved shirt. i know they have kept the original long sleeves but im interested in the whole thing about the short sleeved shirt Also i was thinking of not wearing my cargo trousers too much as they are generally very scruffy. is it possible to ask for more pairs of tunic trousers or are you able t…

As a part of my Citizenship coursework, I have been advised to research the general impact (of effectiveness)that the police has on our society. Its undeniable that factors such as the low, limited budget the police are offered by the government and the fact that most crimes do not even get reported give the police a bad reputation. I appreciate it may not be fully police related but I've recently moved into an address. Opposite from me, parked on a public road in the parking bays (taking up two parking spaces) is an old land rover with two flat tyres and full to the roof with junk / old property. I've phoned the council who confirm the vehicle is SORN. The council have been up twice and put a notice on the window, which has caused the owner to come forward and state they will move the vehicle. That was 3 weeks ago! I've done some searching on the web and I can't really find the answers I'm looking for... Obviously the pre-April 2013 pay scales for constables were much different to how they look now, but I don't really understand why they changed? The message from those in charge at the time was along the lines of "the a new structure will allow officers to move up the scale quicker". Was it merely a cost saving effort by the government? Was it alligned with current rates of inflation at the time? I occasionally feel hard done by when I compare my currently salary with what I could have been earning if I'd joined 4 years ago... Recently I took a statement for a lady who had been receiving some fairly nasty threats over Facebook messenger. I included all points to prove for TTK but was unsure about ADVOKATE on the end. My reason for confusion is as such; ADVOKATE are identification principles included at the end of a statement as a way to ID an offender. But if the offender is ID'd by their facebook profile and is known to the victim through an online connection does it need to be done? I must admit I didn't include it, although it would have been more sensible to play it safe and put it in any way.

How much do you (serving officers) fear reprisals? Have any of you experienced any/heard any stories? What sort of support do you get to protect yourself against them? (Bearing in mind, it's a small world...)

So I handed in my resignation as a Special end of May 2015, been biding my time for 2 years whilst bearing with becoming a new father before handing in my regs application a few weeks ago.
