This question I am sure has come up time and time again, however I have been recently asked this by a friend of a relative who is a serving Special in a shire force in the South - and I'm completely confused myself so cannot answer! With regard to 'Travel Concessions' which most police officers get (subject to a nominal fee via the Fed on a monthly basis), why is this specifically excluded for Specials? After reading the article about the London bridge incident where an officer used only his baton in this against an attacker, maybe its time to start carrying some sort of ready to go small side arm. Probably wouldn't hurt. Would not rely on a taser though.

Hi all. Just wondered what current serving officers prefer to work and why - Response or Neighbourhood. As I understand it, in GMP at least, response officers cover 24 hrs a day and work a variety of shifts. Neighbourhood officers cover the hours between 07.00 and 00.00. Response is more 'quick fix' based and provides a greater variety of jobs, whereas Neighbourhood is much more focused on long term problem solving. Just wondered what people prefer, and why? Hello there. I have noticed that the Met are using strange white shirts that seem to appear normal when the tac vest is worn but when the vest is removed it is clear that the middle section seems to be wicking. I have also noticed that they do not have radio loops which seems to be a bit weird to me why they don't have loops. I think these new designs are only for short sleeved. Are the original short sleeved shirts still worn or issued or have they been totally replaced by this new design. Are there any wicking style shirts for long sleeved as well? also been wondering what if someone wanted to clip their radio onto the shirt?? cheers guys

I wasn't sure about starting a new topic to be honest but thought this touched on general issues within Policing rather than the specific debates from today re arming etc. Although he is not a current officer I felt that it's quite refreshing to see such frank honesty about the state of Policing and resource levels. Interesting tone in the interview where Peter Kirkham actually says the government are ''lying'' Not sure if other people had seen this earlier ?

Hello all, One of our specials is retiring with 43 years service. He already has the LSM and an MBE, however I think he may be missing a bar. I also believe he should be put forwards for either a BEM or QPM. Does anyone know what the time period is for additional bars to the LSM? And has anyone ever successfully written a medal application and had it submitted?

Forgive me, traffic is not a strong point of mine, however just catching up on The Force Essex. Vehicle stopped, male driver. The vehicle is insured and MOT but a female is the only named driver. Transpires the female's boyfriend had taken the car to get some hot chocolate and he had no insurance and a provisional licence. The vehicle was left in a safe place. However, the police still seized the vehicle. I always thought that if the vehicle was insured etc you didn't have to seize it? Anyone able to feedback on this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It was a couple of weeks ago, I was working, where I work there is a car park behind the row of shops. I received a phone call from my mum to say that some #### drunk driver has hit my car, since 2 police officers went to my house which i live with my folks, just informing her what has happened. I got an incident number if I wish to go through insurance but Im not since it will affect my insurance for next year, and its only a scuff on the front bumper, but I was curious as to see what happens to this drunks case, ie does it go to a sheriff court? I know he will get banned hopefully but would I need to go if i got a letter or whatever to attend the case. do I get anything…

I'm a new officer and not too sure what to do when somebody refuses to give their details when you are reporting them for a crime. I'm sure you've probably seen this video below and I'm pretty sure the officer could arrest the suspect, although he clearly got flustered in front of the camera and forgot his legislation. What exactly could he arrest him for though? The initial offence of running a red light, as the arrest is nessacary the to ascertain name and address or for obstructing a police officer? once he's in custody you'd seize his camera which would have all he evidence you'd need in interview.

Where to start. Sum up, I've been fantastically stupid. Using a private network at a business to conduct research into my ongoing law enforcement training. Plugging my memory stick containing a couple GB of my private notes into their computer. I went to create an account, log in, on a law enforcement related forum a week ago. I understand you can use section 17 to enter a premises to arrest someone for an indictable offence, but does this include either way offences? for example a police officer is in pursuit of a shoplifter, the shoplifter lives across the road and runs in to his house. Can the police officer enter to make the arrest?

Hi all I am currently a prospective police officer applicant, I have suffered with car sickness for a huge amount of time and am wondering if anybody currently serving or going through the application process suffers from the same problem? It worries me how I would cope for long periods of time on patrol in a car. If anybody does suffer from this condition is their any advice you can offer? I understand that this sounds like a pathetic problem but the severity of it is epic. I have sough GP advice in the past and they have advised that there is nothing that they can do. Any info/support is welcomed for this. Thanks.
