Unfortunately despite the police being a dream job I am thinking seriously about leaving the job. I'm fed up of being criticised for every decision, unmanageable workload, being short staffed in a busy city and having no support from managers. I have just under three years in so not a great amount of time. Has anyone been in this position or know of people that have left the job and come through the other side? Apart from the obvious being security are there any other jobs that may look favourably on a bit of police experience? Thanks in advance

My housemate has been using my laptop, I looked in the history and see he had been watching a video on Youtube of girls dancing. I watched the video and they are teenagers dressed and dancing like they might in a night club, they are maybe 16 to 18, it is hard to tell they certainly do not look like children. I was just wondering if watching this is illegal? As he is using my laptop. Thank you.

Hi All, For some reason I cannot post in the BTP Section or the Regulars Recruitment Section. So, I have been given my assessment centre date for Sunday 24th September as a Regular for B Division. Can anyone give me tips for the interview as I failed my Specials interview for BTP but passed all the tests. I was a Met Cadet for 5 years and have passed my CKP. Also when (if) I pass the assessment centre am I basically in? As I'm pretty sure I'll past medical and vetting. Or is there more exams where I can fail along the way. This is a dream job of mine. Thanks

If you're not aware of it - there's an undercover documentary about an immigration detention centre at Gatwick Airport, run by G4S. Makes for sobering viewing, it's on the iPlayer if people fancy a watch. For those who have seen it - thoughts?

Hi, I am a victim of recent traffic accident who was lucky to survive and stay healthy, and I still commute daily to work by bicycle due to unreliable and inconvenient public transport. It is my great concern what is happening on London roads and I want to help to make it safer and cleaner. Today I saw an idiot on moped driving at high speed through the pedestrians crossing the road which I manage to film, but: a1) mopeds and bikes do not have plate number in front, so not possible to capture them when such things happen a2) he weared bandana covering the face and glasses - no no chance to see the face. Two questions here: 1) Should the Law not pr…

I can't post in any force-specific forums, so I had to make this here. I've applied and passed the paper-sift and shortlisting stage. On the North Yorks website, it says this -- Now, I am away from 8 September until 1 October on military exercise, so I cannot attend any of these. I've got nobody to contact at NYP and I can't find an email address to contact them with general recruitment queries. Does anybody know if this will prevent me being successful with my application? It seems a bit silly to outright deny me because I am away for all of these dates, I would be willing to come along as soon as I get back if necessary, to undertake a one-on-one familiari…

I was referring to the current issue of overpopulation in prisons and juvenile detention. Those who committed minor crimes are given large, excessive sentencing with little concern about their reintroduction into society following such environments. Then people wonder why the reoffending rate is so high and rising. It, especially in terms of private prison, has become about monetary gains. Prison welfare and rehabilitation is not on the agenda. The more people in prison, even for simple drug offenses, the more the bank account fills. It is a warehouse pumping in people and pumping out money. That is my opinion anyway, from what research and evidence I've looked at so fa…

Hello everyone, A few weeks ago I got my conditional offer letter for West Mercia Special Constabulary after completing the assessment centre. I have given them all of the from's for eyesight, CTC vetting, Force vetting and employment references. My question is how long did the application process take from first applying to the start of training, and how long does training take before you become a certified special constable?

I've recently been informed that there are some Special Sergeant positions coming up on my division and I would very much like to go for one of them, so hopefully I will get the final 20% I have off my PDP completed in the next month or so, so that I can apply for one of the places. But this got me thinking what Ranks do other Specials want to gain and what are their reasons behind this? I'll go first, at the moment I would like to consider myself a career Special; I have no plans to join as a Regular as I love my day job more than enough and get paid a lot more than a Regular does so just can't afford it. So for me I think I'd like to gain the rank of Special Inspector …

Evening all. I appreciate these things can vary between forces, but I noticed on most force's pay scales that a student officer usually starts on pay point 0 and moves to pay point 1 'after initial training'. Is initial training the (circa) 14 to 20 week 'classroom' part or the entire two year probation period?

Hello! I was actually wondering which police force is the most comprehensive, open to discussion... towards Specials. And where they are the most fitted in, in term of variety of the duties, carrier opportunities, investigating and tackling crimes... because I think I know there is any national programme for Specials and that the local police forces are independant in the process of Specials recruitment, training and tasks allocation between these and regular officers. Thanks for any reply Jpourriert

Hey everyone, I just wanted to see and have a discussion about peoples views on the independent advisory group which are run by some police force? I wanted to hear if people think they are useful or maybe useless? Have you ever been to one?

Any advice for tutoring a new student officer? Previously taken out a student officer, but find it very hard not to take over the whole process/rewrite reports, and getting the victim/witness to talk to the student officer than yourself. General advice would be great!

I have noticed a couple of news articles recently like this and this where police officers have received alot of criticism for their views on political/work issues. Recently there has also been issues where officers have been engaging with people like Lee Jasper, Twitter had banned Jasper for a while on Twitter, however he is now back and has retaliated by posting the name and station address of Sgt Harry Trevithick Tangye on his blog post. So generally speaking is Twitter worth the trouble? Should police officers be getting involved in political/social debates on Twitter? Is engaging with the likes of Jasper a good idea? My views are that Twitter is a fanta…
