General Policing Discussions

Hi All, Am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this please. I recently left the MET as a full time Constable. I left due to personal and family issues, but absolutely loved the job and would like to join as a Special constable. Now I know this isn't the usual route - PC to MSC. Just wondered if anyone else had done this and what your thoughts are on doing this, whether your a PC or MSC. I was on team full time and that's what I'd ideally like to do as a special. Stupid question time... If you arrest someone as they have left their house and decide to search their address under sec 32 pace. Are you allowed to search any people in that address also. Read the legislation but can't make my mind up either way!

Good morning all, Apologies for this topic as I know it is a little controversial as everyone has there own opinions on this matter. I was speaking with a friend from another force the other weekend who is currently going through his force fitness test (as a new recruit) he failed it and was given a new date to return but the date was only 3 weeks after. How do you think is generally acceptable to allow somebody to train so they can pass the required standard?

Good Morning All, With height requirements for application long gone in the emergency services, and quite rightly so, the majority of police officers (especially Male) I personally come across are well above 5'10". Maybe this is because I am activley looking (not stalking, mind!) and I am a shorter guy! I was at an event on Sunday with police prescence and I was dwarfed by most officers, even PCSO's - 95% of the the force present were male. Not sure if it's been posted on here, but someone I know has been doing a podcast interviewing former The Bill cast members. One of the reasons it's quite good is The 'Old' Bill cast members are mostly on it, not the soap rubbish etc. In the recent one Tony Stamp talks about doing the Advanced Police Driving Course at Hendon so he could drive Sierra 1 on the streets of London without them being closed; Paul usher Tavner) and other cast like Vicky Hagen did the same etc. Surprising that a TV would go to those sorts of levels of realism. Next year I'm considering making a request for a standard driving course, which whilst not unprecedented, it is unusual for specials in my force. To do this I'm told I need to make a business case, which is what I'm preparing. Does anyone have experience of making such a business case before please, such that they can share the points that they believe were most persuasive? I'd also be interested to know approximately how much the 3 week standard (excluding initial pursuit) course costs if anyone knows. Anyone have any experience about LPU (local policing unit) teams? In my force as a probie you get put on LPU during your tutorship, with 7 weeks on response then back on LPU for rest of probation. Heard it's boring, slow and you get shafted with prisoner handling a lot etc. Just wondered what any serving cops thought?
