Hi! I work part time as a computer programmer, and have recently successfully applied to be a special constable. I have a question about the reimbursements - I have been told I can claim an allowance on miles I do travelling to and from the station (I live in the next town so it's a good 10 miles there and back). I earn extremely close to the next higher tax band, so was wondering if the "benefits" from the SC job count as taxable income - I am only concerned because I earn so closely to the basic tax band and don't want to be pushed around by HMRC. I've looked around at sites such as this tax calculator but there's no option for job benefits that I can find (https://www.…

Hi, I'm just about to start my new recruit training however I would like to get an honest oppion of life in CID.. I was wondering if anyone could give an example of what it's like to spend a week as a DC. Likes/dislikes/similarities to uniform and things that are completely different. Just a general run down of what you could expect to be doing as a DC. Thanks

I submitted my application for police officer. Closing date was 30th April 2018. I am wondering how long it will take for a response. I received an email the day after closing day asking for details on convictions and conviction dates. Any information much appreciated guys.

So in Kent we currently use B-CAM cameras which are not bad for quality but the upload time is ridiculous! We could spend an hour waiting for footage to upload. It’s just been announced Kent will be rolling out the new Axon cameras which I believe The Met use at the moment. Anyone used it? Pros and cons? It says the upload time will be quicker but apparently it is constantly recording in “silent” mode until you activate it for full recording mode. Any feedback on how it works would be great!

A man got a fine for over £2,000 due to speeding over 100mph on a motorway as his partner was pregnant. What would you have done? I personally would have reported him for the offence because he is not trained to drive at high speeds and he is putting other road users at risk.

How is it at basic training? Is it sufficient? How often on average do you have to perform first aid in the job? I have no real reason for asking, other than I was watching something unrelated on TV and it made me think about it. Cheers.

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/bmw-driver-who-chased-man-14576585.amp " BMW driver who accidentally put a scooter rider in a coma for three weeks walked free from court after being told to pay a £250 fine. Luke Hughes, 21, correctly suspected that the scooter had been stolen and decided to pursue the rider but ended up crashing into him. The rider, Connor Carr, now aged 20, was flung from the scooter after hitting a wall following the collision. He spent three weeks in a coma after suffering a fractured skull and sub-arachnoid haemorrhage." ***Now if this was a police pursuit then it would have turned out very differently.***

Street blades inspired by horror films set to be banned A long list of dangerous weapons that glamorise violence will also be included in the total ban, putting them on the same legal footing as unlicensed firearms When will zombie knives been banned? Home Secretary Amber Rudd will propose to make possessing them illegal everywhere, whether in public or at home. Selling zombie knives and possessing them in public is already illegal but the police are still powerless to confiscate or arrest suspects who keep the large blades with serrat…

Hi all, first post stumbled across when searching for info. I had my car taken for evidence as part of an arrest due to me retaliating and fighting with an idiot who broke my windscreen and started to attack me. Anyway I was released 20 or so hours later and upon release was told the car is not an issue and was given numbers of police officers to call and arrange the car so I could get it collected. Couldn't get through either number as both went direct to answer machine, then each number I tried (101, local custody suite etc etc) after this over a period of days gave me no more infor, I had just hit a brick wall of a system. I was told the 2 numbers I was or…

Hello All I'm looking for officers who were based at/out of Bradford Street in Birmingham in/around 1980. I'm a Student Nurse, not a police officer, but both of my parents were serving officers there at that time and I'm trying to find one of them - my dad. My mum was a WPC who lived at the Bradford Street digs but was from Coventry. My dad is John Davies, a Detective with the SPG which is confusing as I thought they were Met only. He was based at/out of Bradford Street and I believe lived in Birmingham at the time as well. He played drums in a band with friends who had gigs in clubs around Birmingham. He was in his thirties at the time and would be in his 70's …

Hi, I have just signed up to this as i have recently been arrested (charges eventually dropped) but i have been left feeling very anxious, worried and let down due to my experience. I will keep this as brief as possible: I came out of a relationship in December 2016 and was in a very bad emotional state for the next few months and tried to re-kindle the relationship sending various texts and emails. This in hindsight was wrong of me as my ex was asking me to stop but i continued messaging her and received a warning for harassment without violence which i accepted. Throughout 2017 i was receiving email read reports from an iphone app i use that was tel…

Finally got my start date. Just wondered everyone else's memories of how they felt when they found out they were in and on their first day. It's something I've wanted for so long that I've tried to tell people who ask that it doesn't really feel real yet. Added to the excitement and obvious nervousness about doing a good job. I'm handing in my notice today too which is obviously a mixed feeling. So... what are your memories of this time for you?
