http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/6345629.stm Keeping secrets from web spies By Dan Simmons Reporter, BBC Click Online Picking a password is a tricky business. And the temptation is to go for something that is easy to remember like our partner's birthday, a pet's name, or a film star. The growing number of passwords is putting privacy at risk The trouble is, given just a few attempts it also makes it pretty easy to crack. "Hackers today will often use a dictionary style attack. This means they can very quickly use all of the words in the dictionary as well as common celebrity o…

Labour Government drops another howler. The Dept of Work and Pensions sent out 26,000 letters to pensioners, to the wrong addresses. All the letters contained National Insurance number details, plus Bank Account details. One moment the government istelling everyone to be careful of what they discard, incase of identity theft, then they send 26,000 letters to the wrong addresses. They say anyone who loses money due to their incompetence will be compensated. Abit late after the horse has bolted. Still we can't blame this on the Home Office and Mr Reid, it's not his dept.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6343311.stm Cool clouds turn light to matter The light enters one cloud of atoms and is revived in another A fleeting pulse of light has been captured and then made to reappear in a different location by US physicists. The quantum sleight of hand exploits the properties of super-cooled matter known as a Bose-Einstein condensate. The emerging pulse was slightly weaker than the high-speed beam that entered the experimental setup, but was identical in all other respects. The work, published in the journal Nature, could one day lead to advances in computing and optical communication. "I…

In 2006, when the government announced the CSA would be replaced, £4m was paid out in bonuses, it was revealed in a written Parliamentary answer. Five-year-old involved in mugging A five-year-old girl has been involved in the mugging of a pensioner. The little girl was with two older girls, believed to be 17 and 19, who attacked the 95-year-old and robbed him of cash. They followed the elderly man home from a bus stop in Chiswick, west London, before pushing him into a bedroom and demanding money. The victim had to be treated for shock. The five-year-old was apparently used to rifle through the old man's pockets. A police spokeswoman said: "The victim had returned to his flat at around 8pm and become aware of the two female suspects, who were accompanied by a small child, be…

Hi, Are there any police here who have or are researching unsolved crime such as the case of Jack the Ripper? If so, please post. We would very much like your input into any of these cases, particularly JtR. Another interesting point is comparison of police procedures then with current police procedures. Would Jack be caught today? Thank you very much indeed. Best Regards, True

How true!! Mr Blair is like a second rate Actor trying to do his 'piece' to an empty Theatre. The lights are down, the stage crew are packing their bags, and there are just a few people still in the stalls, some drunken revelers laughing and shouting abuse at the stage!! The 'Actor' on the stage still believes that he is delivering his 'piece de resistance'... his 'King Lear'!! Those Stage hands who still remain, are holding their heads in their hands and cringing at the delivery of the 'Actor'... The 'Limelight' has been switched off, but our 'Actor' still does not notice this, and continues with his monologue about 'One Size Fits All' and the glories that have never b…

I read that 'every criminals' friend, Mrs Gareth Pearce has been spouting her usual rhetoric about the police. This woman must really hate the police, she has been complaining to the press about some of those nine held in custody. She states that two of them were not even asked about the possible beheading of a british Moslem soldier. I find that hard to believe. It's funny how Ms Pearce manages to pop up eveytime some possible terroist is arrested, spouting that they are all innocent. I'm surprised we have not heard from her friend of leads Liberty, she is usually the next to jump on the bandwaggon.
