Mav22 (and others) - you will love this one: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/feb/16/tony-blair-prize A condition of the award is that 10% of the prize money is used to fund graduate students in the winner's field. A spokesman for the former prime minister's office confirmed that the rest of the money would be donated to the Faith Foundation. That's alright then!

Is it just me or is Valentine's Day a ploy by the big companies to get us to part with our cash in the name of love? I think it's nothing more than commercialism. Why should you make a huge fuss of somebody you love on one particular day of the year? Why not make off the cuff gestures throughout the year just to show your appreciation of that person? I haven't actually gone into Valentine's Day majorly. I can't be bothered with the fakery of it. And no, this is not sour grapes because I'm single . It's just what I think. Am I the only one or does everyone else think it's a load of rubbish as well?

Over the next few months, the NHS will be rolling out the national computerised medical records system called "The Spine". It will contain all your medical records for viewing by upto 2 million NHS staff, pharmacy staff and various civil servants and government agencies (including the Security Service). The information on these records will also be for sale to the private sector. If you haven't opted out, do so now. Remember that the BMA are so concerned about this that they have advised all doctors to opt themselves and their families out, and most have already done so. Most MPs have opted out and so has, believe it or not, the chief executive of the agency responsi…

A disgraceful prison term for killing six people. I just hope the driver can live with himself when he gets out of jail.

We had a visit this afternoon from my wife's recently widowed uncle and we got on to talking about politics. He shocked me when he told me that he voted for a BNP candidate at the last local elections because, in many respects, he is a very liberally-minded chap. He had even considered joining the party! I asked him why and he told me that he is mightily impressed with most of their policies, in particular, their approach to environmental issues, which is of special interest to him, but he also agreed with the BNP, rather than any of the other main parties, on EU membership, education and defence. I asked him what he thought about their attitudes towards issues such …

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1138503/I-felt-like-killing-Baby-P-scandal-admits-sacked-council-chief.html That arrogant cow said on BBC News this morning, ''if a young person gets stabbed to death in London tonight, they don't sack the Borough Commander, do they''. There is a huge difference Mrs Shoesmith when you have a 17 month old child UNDER YOUR CARE, being supervised by three social workers, and the Borough Commander for Haringay who has half a million people in his Borough, none of whom he is supervising.(except his own men). This woman says she is broke and is being supported by friends and family, and she was on a salary of £100,000 a year, she must…
