I helped police a recent gala day in the village where i live. While avidly watching the gala presentations, I inadvertently found myself in the audience stood next to someone in a clown outfit. I didnt think anything of it at the time until one of my fellow villagers who recognised me but didnt know I was a special came up to me with a big beaming smile and said 'That costume is DEFINATELY a winner!' Needless to say, I moved away from the gentleman in the clown outfit

Top prizes up for grabs for those who correctly guess who the next head of the MPS will be... With the hunt now on to find a new Met Commissioner as the Force faces a period of unprecedented challenge, there has been significant interest in the likely contenders. The post has been widely advertised and, as the August 12 deadline for applications looms closer, speculation is mounting at who has thrown their hat into the ring. While the Home Office is keeping a tight-lipped silence on who has applied, current odds from bookies William Hill place ACPO President Sir Hugh Orde as favourite – running just ahead of TVP Chief Sara Thornton. Happened not a million miles away from me! A yacht belonging to the Metropolitan Police Sailing Club had to be towed to safety after running aground on the Hampshire coast. Rescuers had to tow the 36ft Blue Spirit of Broadway off a gravel bank at the mouth of Beaulieu River. Cowes lifeboat attached a line to the yacht’s halyard in a bid to pull it free, yesterday. The vessel, which had five men on board, was then able to reach its mooring in the Isle of Wight’s River Medina. Source

Currently, when someone posts in the Locker Room, they don't receive a post count. Would you like this to change? Please note that this is only a suggestion and there may well be a good reason that it currently is the way that it is

Evening All, Yes, I know we've all discussed this before, but this newspaper article and a video report on Sparta Security doing their "bit" during their street patrols is thought provoking. While Sir Ian Blair and other police officers of all ranks may frown upon this kind of public security activity, it does seem to be working - so far. At least the locals feel more reassured. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/4740...m_no_Al_Capone/ Your comments are welcome! Cheers, Bill

Congratulations to Medic2 who is our runaway winner of the July PS.com photo competition! Medic2's photo was by far and away the most popular out of the entries but yet again the standard of photography has been excellent. Medic2 gets a natty moderator's award and the chance to pick the topi for the September competition. My dog by SJA Medic, on Flickr
