http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/10215490/Daniel-Pelka-stepfather-killer-was-wanted-criminal-in-Poland.html - I know it is not only Social Services, but we get this time and time again, and the SS come out with the same rhetoric, ''We will learn from our mistakes'', but they never do, we have had so many child deaths where the SS have been a complete failure, but nothing ever gets done. We did have that |totally incompetent, arrogant Shoesmith woman sacked, and two of her workers, but they are the first for years. The school dealt with this situation badly and there was no follow up at all, all the signs were there but as usual nobody really noticed, or d…

The world's oldest knockout cup competition is to return to the BBC after an absence of seven years, as part of a deal for the FA Cup in which it will share the rights with new entrant BT Sport. The contract, which runs for four years from 2014/15, means that FA Cup ties will be shared between the BBC and BT while ITV retains the rights to England's home matches. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/jul/17/bbc-bt-sport-fa-cup-tv-rights The FA Cup back where it belongs, the BBC do wonders for any sporting tournament they have rights for,ITVs football coverage is awful, the mumbling chiles, the depressing keane, to the awful townsend.

Probably the closest competition of recent times, a brilliant theme and some of the best photos we've had leads us to another Cuffbertt win. Red Arrows by Cuffbertt, on Flickr Do you have a camera or mobile phone? Can you take a photograph? Can you think of way to link a photograph to a theme? Can you do this better than Cuffbertt? Can anyone stop him? Only time will tell in the next thrilling installment of the PoliceSpecials.com Monthly Photography Competition. Coming Soon to a Locker Room near you... (as soon as I get a new theme)

So I saw the post below by David: Whilst I only occasionally use text talk and value English that conforms to convention, I must admit, I completely disagree with the above. We need to remember that grammar isn't so much a set of rules, but a convention to aid syntax and ease of understanding. If people understand you then what is the problem? As for profanity, there are certain contexts where a swear word can convey more meaning and emotion than any other word. Like any word, it's about having the right word for the right job and that's the beauty of the English language - there are so many words with subtle subcontexts in their use that there is almost always a w…

The tree outside my house has leaves on the one side but not the side closest my house, next to it is a Cherry Blossom and a Conifer... My question is, could it be that these two other trees are blocking the sunlight and preventing photosynthesis or are they taking the nutrients from this larger tree (breed unknown) and so the one side of the tree is infact dead?

Sat with a cuppa and biscuits watching UK Border Force 2 and they're complaining about the number of immigrants crossing the border from Calais to the UK. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge might be able to shoot this down in flames but why don't they scan each lorry with a heat-sensor camera to detect stowaways? I mean fair enough some are refridgerated but surely even those will give off a heat signature?

The Pilbara received 9 inches of rain over three days resulting in ‘minor’ flooding in low lying areas. These photos were taken just outside of Port Headland and showcase WA’s police force at its finest. Question is, Do you think they should perhaps have let the prisoner out of the back?

Many companies and organisations decide to contract out for services and functions that are currently carried out 'in-house' with direct labour. Most heads of organisations will consider it when making savings. Many, (like me) think that it is all about cost and the efficiency and quality aspect of the job is eventually over-looked or forgotten. Do you think 'contracting out' is a good idea? Has it been a success or failure in your place of work?

To avoid derailing the Call of Duty thread and because nobody seems to have made one, I thought I'd make a GTAV thread! Here's the trailer: Thought I'd add my speculation based on things I've seen in the trailer. As well as obviously featuring Los Santos and Vinewood, there are references in road signs to a place called Los Fuerta, as well as Interstate 5 which covers the West coast of the USA from Canada to Mexico, so we may possibly be able to venture into other states via car. Although Las Venturas (Vegas) doesn't seem to feature and the countryside in the video looks quite green, so I'm guessing Nevada won't be included. Either way I can't wait.
