18 November 2015 A moped rider who recorded himself pulling dangerous wheelies and posting it on social media has been jailed. Jamie Simmonds, 21 of Normandy Drive, Hayes appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 13 November where he was sentenced to six months in jail for six counts of dangerous driving. He has also been disqualified from driving for two years and his moped has been seized for destruction. Simmonds pleaded guilty to all charges at an earlier hearing at the same court. The court heard how on Friday, 22 May officers were parked on Long Lane, Hillingdon in an unmarked car when they saw a moped with no number plates and a camera mounted on the ri…

Hello everyone! All going well I am hoping to be deployed to Lambeth at some point early next year. Does anyone have an overview of what it's like to work in the borough? I've heard work is quite varied, and that's good! I've chosen Lambeth as my second language is widely spoken in the borough, but also because I think I would like to become a LGTB liaison officer (being part of the LGTB community myself). Does anyone know what the process is like to become a LGTB liaison officer? Can you become one while in probation? Thank you for your help in advance! MetPCV

Hello everyone So I've recently applied to become a Special and the assessment day has come round much more quickly than I thought it would. I'm due in for the combined day on the 8th of July. The problem is I'm going in for laser eye surgery on the 20th of June. I rang them a while ago and they said it would be ok to proceed even though I've not yet had the surgery but I was expecting day 2 to be ages away... Would they let me defer / retake that part of day 2 or are they really that strict about the surgery needing to be at least six weeks old? Cheers Matt

09 November 2015 Now the clocks have gone back and the evenings draw in, burglars will be on the prowl for valuables and cash. If you leave your home in complete darkness and your curtains are not drawn, and no car is on the drive, it's an obvious sign to an opportunist burglar that no-one is in. At this time of the year it pays to secure your home. There are a number of simple ways to do this, all of which will help reduce the chance of your home becoming the next target: - Visit a local retailer to pick up a 24-hour segment timer for under £5. The timer can be used with a lamp, radio or television to give the impression that someone's home. Remember to use an ener…

Good evening! I recently applied to become a Met (reg) PC (second language pilot scheme) and completed the online assessments last week. I was quite confident I had performed well...until I got the email saying I hadn't reached the pass mark. A total reality check! I must admit I had totally underestimated the online assessments when there is obviously some kind of technique to perform well in them, something I didn't even think about. Luckily, I've been offered the chance to resit them and was wondering if any of you is/ has been in the same position? The email was quite vague and stated the Met is not allowed to give feedback at this stage so I'm not s…

Hi, I'm a volunteer police cadet with Staffordshire Police (unrelated!) and I'm just wondering a couple of things if you guys wouldn't mind helping! It always seems like officers in London have less PPE, like pepper spray and barely any tasers, compared to the county forces who usually always have pepper spray and a taser? They seem to only carry cuffs and a baton, at least that's what it looks like, as well as them still wearing the old white shirt and black tie that even we as cadets use now. Is this true? I've also been wondering what exactly 'Police Support' is, as I have seen a few of these around and can't find anything on the internet about them: htt…

Greetings to you all. I've recently applied to become a Special (again) after dropping out of training before it had commenced. So, having applied and selecting Camden as my first choice and Islington as my second, I was wondering if any of you guys are based there or are in the same position as me in terms of wanting to work there. If so, how are both boroughs on day-to-day basis? I'm presuming both boroughs have some sort of night life, and yeah, London's biggest stadium right beside them, so there will be some sort of excitement on many days of the year without a doubt. If any of you guys can give a bit more information than I know on both boroughs, I would be extre…

Hi everyone I'm after some help here. I'm wondering whether I should contact the vetting unit to update my file or not.... Regular PC, London Met This is what the vetting form ask people to declare: Traffic offences- Issued a fixed penalty notice for a traffic offence (excluding parking)? Now, I have NEVER been issue with a FPN. I DO have a few PENALTY CHARGE NOTICE. Basically 2 x driving in a bus line and 1 x performing a prohibited turn. All of them were paid within the 28 days window. I read everywhere PENALTY CHARGE NOTICES are a civil matter and NOT criminal offenses, as opposed to Fixed Penalty Notices (which can be endorsables or non-endorsables). I…

Just a quick question in regards to the precluded occupations list that can be found when applying to become a Special Constable. Those of you who have seen the list will know that it's quite long and has all different job types listed on there. The two that caught my eyes are the "Members of employers’ police forces and private constabularies" and the "Members of Police Authorities". Long story short, no, I am not employed by any Police authority or private constabularies. However, I did apply to volunteer for the Met Police force, which is basically like an Admin office based role. Now, the problem that I'm a bit wary about is that since on the precluded occupations li…

Hi all Just wandering if anyone has any ideas what the shifts are like on this borough for the different teams? I'm on the November intake and will be posted to Westminster so i'm being a bit impatient as it's a while before i will be on borough, just wanted to see what potential shifts are. I can imagine breaks may be difficult to get but what are you meant to have and how do you know when to have them etc.? Is there much overtime on this borough? Any other useful info on the borough would be great to know. Thanks.
