Hi there I was under the impression vetting was the very last stage of the recruitment process (This is for New PCs for the Met, 2nd language pilot scheme), however I received an email a couple of days ago from HR asking to clarify a couple of things from my vetting form...I only did Day 1 a week ago...still awaiting results. I thought it was a bit weird that we got asked to submit our vetting form before Day 1, thought it was just to speed up the process but the fact they are already checking it confuses me. Does this mean I've passed Day 1?! Why would they start vetting without even knowing if I'll pass Day 2? I'm probably reading to much into it haha,…

Met chief Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe: London at risk as Scotland Yard faces £1bn budget cuts The safety of London is at risk from budget cuts which could mean the loss of up to 8,000 police officers in the capital, the head of Scotland Yard said today. He declared the savings would mean huge cuts to front line officers and warned they could damage the Met’s ability to prevent and respond to a major terrorist outrage. His comments, in an exclusive interview with the Standard, mark the first time he has spoken out in detail against austerity me…

Hi All, I am due to start my SC training in the next few weeks. Does anyone know when you attend the uniform fitting and whether they reserve the uniform for you until you complete the training? I assume you have to pay for certain pieces of equipment such as black boots? Thanks Conor

Can anyone who has undertook SC to PC training fairly recently give me some guidance. Can anyone please explain what the 'Knowledge Check' is at the start of the course (within the first week) and what it involves please?

Hi there all I was in this website two years ago when I applied to be a a Special in January 2013, had passed everything, had a borough and training dates booked and then was rejected last minute in October, when I failed vetting due to financial issues. I am now back in the process having had things improve significantly and have my Day 1/2 on 15 October. I'm a stubborn girl and won't give up on my dream. Just wanted to say hi, wish you all the best of luck and look forward to chatting, and fingers crossed, one day I'll be doing the job of my dreams! Take care and speak soon! Sarah

When you get your combination of 9 shirts, are there any of the double-cuffed variety which would require cufflinks or are they all buttons now? Also, how would you be able to acquire another pair of rank epaulettes?

I have my assessment coming up very soon and I'm struggling on filling out the references form. I contacted HR almost 3 weeks ago but no response yet. Should I be okay to use family friends for my two personal references? I cannot really think of anyone that has known me for 5 years and isn't a friend or someone I know through family. Any advice would be appreciated.
