Hi all, This is my first post on this forum, but I've been a long time reader, so this is my hello! I am going through the assessments process to become a PC, and recently I have received an email saying that I passed my Language Assessment, and the date for the Day 1 assessment has not yet been set, but is estimated to happen around end of November. Within that email it was written that it would be the best to do the CKP before Day 1 Assessment. My questions are: 1. Do I need to complete the CKP before the Day 1 results? or if I don't want to be put for a looong process, do I need to complete it for sure before Day 2 assessment? It kind of confuses me :/ 2. Where …

Hi, I have my Day 1 next week and am a bit confused about the references. Firstly, my employer one is OK as I've worked at the same place for 3 years. However, for personal references it says "work/worked in a professional capacity i.e. Police Officer, Teacher, Solicitor, Accountant, Doctor, Dentist etc." Unfortunately I don't know anyone of these examples, but know people who work in respectable office jobs - would that be considered "professional capacity"? I do know a teacher but she is my friend's girlfriend - is that "too close" Thanks for any help Sam

07 October 2015 Four suspected gang members have been sentenced following an operation targeting drug supply in north London, which has already seen ten further men jailed. The 14 individuals, all believed to be gang members, were responsible for drug dealing in the Tottenham area and were arrested following a proactive operation earlier this year by officers from the Trident Command Gangs Unit with the support of local officers. On Tuesday 6 October, Derick Agyeman, 20, from Croydon; Hassan Tavsanci, 26, of no fixed abode; Shabazz Gooden, 18 from E4; and Kazuka Warren, 35, from N16 were jailed at Wood Green Crown Court for a combined term of five years, five month…

Can any serving officers on here say how important languages (besides English) really are? From the Met's latest recruitment campaign for new constables which is only open to those who speak certain languages, you would think they are quite important. There is a group of applicants (I am one) who applpied before this requirement came in and are right at the end of the recruitment process who have been substantially delayed and may even be terminated. However we've been told more than once in CKP about the Language Line telephone interpreter service - basically you have a panel of interpreters at the end of your mobile phone/radio 24/7 so it would seem to me it's not al…

06 October 2015 PC Justin Campbell-Harris, an officer attached to Kingston borough, has received today, Tuesday, 22 September received a Royal Humane Society award for saving the life of a drowning man. During the afternoon of 27, February 2014, Sergeant Glen and Constable Campbell-Harris were pursuing a suspected drug dealer along Portsmouth Road in Kingston-upon-Thames. In an attempt to evade the officers the suspect deliberately jumped into the river. At this particular time the current was fast and the water was high from heavy rainfall. Sewage had seeped into the river and floating debris caused more hazards. The two officers took off their belt kit and boots…

05 October 2015 Family fun day at The Oval sees Lambeth community triumph in 20/20 cricket. A family fun day at The Oval on Saturday, 19 September saw a Lambeth community team triumph in a 20/20 cricket match against the local police. The match was preceded by a game of 'Catchy Shubby' - a version of cricket traditionally played in the Caribbean, which was used to select players for the teams later in the day. The Lambeth Cricket Academy (LCA) use the game ‘Catchy Shubby’ to develop leadership skills in young people and as a means of addressing wider social issues. The family fun day was free of charge and spectators were able to watch the cricket from the Pavilion …

Hello, I'm sure some of you have encountered the self-booking to confirm your assessment date with the Met. I.e. you reply to an e-mail with your name, DOB, etc. For someone that has done this, could you confirm if you receive a confirmation e-mail? I confirmed that I'd be in attendance, and also sent them the security form and a scan of my passport/bank statement. But haven't received any confirmation to confirm whether or not they have received my e-mail. Don't really want to turn up on the day and they're like "who the f are you?" "Ronnie Pickering" - but you get the idea. Thanks.

01 October 2015 The activity, which began in August, has resulted in the arrest of 11 people for a variety of crimes including theft, drugs offences and public order offences. This has led to a clear reduction in theft offences in the area. Police Sergeant James Burgess, from Hillingdon borough, said: "By using a range of tactics we have quickly identifying thieves and even caught them in the act. Too often unsuspecting victims will be approached by opportunist thieves in cafes and restaurants. These thieves are known to use maps or selling Christmas as means to distract a victim's attention away from their mobile phone or other item of value they have left openly on a…

On 29 April 2014 Yeboah spent around three hours gambling on a gaming machine at a betting shop on Fencepiece Road, Hainault. Having lost his money he left the shop and visited a different betting shop on High Street, Barkingside at around 21:40hrs. He entered the shop and attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a dark hooded coat, with the hood up. He spoke with the lone male cashier before demanding money.
