Hi everyone. Ive applied to the London Met as a Special and im rather nervous about my upcoming virtual interview/assessment. The first part (SJT) doesnt seem too much of a bother from what ive read about it, but I have seen some example questions online for the second "interview" part and i am not very good with thinking about a past experience with a pressured 1 minute to give details of it! No idea what they will actually ask me but im worried i will just freeze or go blank, as im sure i have been in those situations before, but recalling them within a minute is a different matter... Any advice on this? Thanks

So, I’ve been trying to get in the met for 10 years and finally made it, all vetting passed just before Christmas (18th dec) so the year ended on a high. I have been given my start date for training as early Feb, but I have also been given a lot of random information from friends who have been there, but a lot of it was conflicting. I’ve had my uniform fitting already, but I sure when we will be issued it as some people are told they get it before the start date and some get it after? Can anyone shed any light on what to expect? thank you in advance

Hello all, I thought, it would be good to share my story about how I wanted to became a Special Constable. I hope some could find it helpful and some could actually help me to recognise what should be my next step to make my dream come true. Let me start from the beginning- my main job is connected with the police forces across the country and after a few years I thought it could be a great idea to actually join the force as a Special Constable. Of course, this idea did not happen after one night. It was a long process of thinking if that role would suit me well. I was not born in the UK and my English is not my first language (I came into England 10 years ago…

Hi there first post on the forum so hi everyone. I’m currently looking to become a special when the applications open and wanted to ask a few questions in regards to becoming a special as a stepping stone to become a police officer. Unfortunately I didn’t try hard enough at school so I don’t have the qualifications to do a PCDA. Has anyone managed to become a police officer from a special? (It’s Leicestershire police I am apply at) thanks

Does anyone know what the typical topics are that are discussed in group discussions? Is it likely to be police-related or generic current affairs type stuff? Thanks.

Is being a CCTV operator (volunteer or paid & licenced) a conflict of interest with being a Special? The NPIA document mentions security, but doesn't mention CCTV operator specifically. Thanks.

A few years ago I applied for the Met Specials and was successful with my application pending vetting. Unfortunately I was refused vetting for an undisclosed reason “In the case of your application we are unable to provide the reasons for your refusal”. Having spent some time reading through the APP Vetting documentation, as I would be keen to try another application with the Met or other local force, I am even more puzzled as to why absolutely no reason for refusal of vetting could be disclosed, seen as this should only happen in instances where this may: "damage national security, result in the force breaking any law, frustrate the prevention or detection of crime,…

Im new to the forum but looking for a little advice with the application form. I have reached the "why do you want to become a special" question and although I know exactly why in my head, Im really struggling to get this down on paper! I've put it away for the night and will tackle it with a fresh head tomorrow, but in the meantime I wondered if anyone may have any advice for me?

Hi All, I have a couple of questions in reference to a special constable role in the London Met. I have recently had my assessment day and passed all of what was put in front of me (written, interview, medical & fitness test) etc. I am now in the vetting stage and hope to pass that side of it and get my training date soon, fingers crossed! That being said I now have a couple of questions after chatting to the employment team over email and also my current employers. Can some experienced specials advise me on the below where possible? In reference to my employers questions on whether I will be called into work as a special during my Monday-Friday (paid job) wor…

Would anyone know, I currently work FT as Police Staff so I've obviously passed vetting. If I applied to be a special within the same force would I have to do a separate vetting or would it carry across? Nothing to hide, it's just so long winded !

Hi, I am towards the end of the Specials recruitment process in Hertfordshire, having got much further than I expected, but now I have starteded to worry about the vetting. In general myself and my family are all well behaved and dont have records with the police, so that doesn't worry me. What I'm dtarting to worry about is the financial vetting. I have never been great when I has come to finances and my score is still poor, but over the last few years my overall finance situation has improved greatly. I'm now using only a small amount of my credit utilisation, have kept up to date with my payments and have never had a CCJ or IVA which is what …

I applied for the Specials and have been successful in everything so far but just got the medical to pass. I have an existing heart condition however this doesn’t prevent me from doing exercise and I’ve also tested myself for the fitness test and passed. Does anyone know of specials/regs or PCSOs that have got through the medical stage with a heart condition? thanks.
