I was driving home from work just now and saw something unusual, so i thought id put it to you guys. I pulled up behind a car at some traffic lights which had the back window missing due to it being smashed (you could see the little bits of glass around the edge) I then pulled along side the car when the traffic was moving again (dual carraigeway) and noticed that both the back door windows had been put through. There were 2 young children sat in the back of the car and the mother (most likely) in the front, driving. Would you be pulling this car over to see whats going on? Are there any offences being committed? Thanks

You are called to an S grade RTC at approx 8pm on a mid-week evening. You arrive about 55 minutes after the call came out, just meeting the 1 hour charter time. It is a dark wet winter's evening, but you're in a quiet part of the centre of town and the street lighting and is good. A motorcyclist has fallen off when turning a 90 degree corner. There is no visible damage to the motorbike, which is now parked safely at the edge of the road – well, until 8am tomorrow morning when he’s going to get a ticket if some nice parking warden comes across it! PNC checks on the motorbike are satisfactory. It is registered to an address some twenty minutes or so drive away, just outsid…

Mr Jones is first in line in a traffic queue at a pedestrian crossing and he is aware that the lights have only just turned red. An ambulance immediately behind him switches on its emergency lights and siren. Despite wanting to move out of the way of the ambulance, Mr Jones remains stationary in respect of the traffic signal at danger. After around one minute, the ambulance driver, Miss Y shouts to him from her vehicle: "Just move forward, we've got a child chocking two streets away!" Mr Jones quickly decides that there is more likely to be a death by result of the ambulance being late, than from him moving across a red signal. He releases the handbrake in preparation…

Hello again all, Another question concerning robbery as I prep for my first KEE exam! I was under the impression that a robbery cannot be committed unless theft takes place. I was told that the following two scenarios are robberies, but am confused as to why! Scenario 1 James, a clearly violent man, approaches a man and woman and theatens the man with a bat telling him that he will use it on him unless the woman gives him her handbag. The man is completely unconcerned by the threat because he is a self defence expert. However, his partner is frightened that James will carry out the threat and hands over the handbag. Before James can escape the male pins him to the fl…

PC Smith and PCSO White attend a house where PC Smith intends to arrest Dave for an offence under S4 Public Order Act 1986. They walk to the front door and get no answer. After trying for several minutes, PC Smith walks round the back of the house and through a window sees Dave hiding on the floor of the bedroom. The window is also open. PC Smith says to PCSO White that he is going to enter through the open window and arrest Dave, but that PCSO White must remain outside as he has no power to enter whereas PC Smith does under S17 PACE. PC Smith enters and startles Dave; they begin to struggle and PC Smith gains some control of Dave but he still cannot handcuff him alo…

Hello all, I’m currently in the process of applying to TVP to be a Special Constable and as I’m sure with all applicants scenarios and situations have started wandering through my mind while out and about. This one came to me while in the queue at MacDonald’s. You’re on duty and in uniform, grabbing some lunch from MacyDs or wherever. While waiting your turn in the queue you spot a staff member out the back making some ones burger and you see them spit in that burger. What would the offence be and what would you do? Mike

You're at work in a supermarket, and an emergency code announcement is made, which means that all available colleagues must immediately report to wherever needed at the time... Everybody runs out to the car park, to find a customer who has tried to steal shopping, who has been challenged by the security guards and then become extremely aggressive. Shouting in colleagues faces, and using abusive language. One of the security guards then tries to stop the man, by grabbing him from behind, but the customer then turns around and punches the security guard. You're told he just just got out of prison, and is a 'nut case' and asked by management, not to get involved as you woul…

You're an off duty special in a fairly rural area and it has come to your attention that an awful lot of class A is being dealt/used in your local pub while you are out having a few drinks. A single cubicle in the male toilets is where most deals/using takes place. The users/dealers are unaware that you are a police officer. There are usually around 6-10 people on any Saturday night in possession of class A. Most of them linger in the large beer garden so anything done outside is discreet. The landlord is aware of what happens on the premises but fails to take action. Being off duty I'd assume you'd just call 101? Being as most users are in the beer garden, if they are …

Hi I'm not a constable.. but a civvie/ reserve forces guy! Placing this as hyperthetical question. What if two guys are having a heated debate and then first guy picks up an empty pint glass and tries to glass the face of the other. The other guy successfully blocks the thrust with a sweeping arm action which glass breaks on table but guy with glass does not let go, so second guy grabs hold of wrist with glass in to stop repeat attack and starts punching 1st guy to make hime let go. Who is in the wrong? 1 kind of witness.. Teenage boy coming down stairs who hears 2nd guy shouting at 1st " How dare you try and glass me" but when sees scene, sees 2nd guy on top bea…

You're on Council Property involved in a recreational activity etc, there is a smell of strong marijuana in the air and you notice someone smoking nearby. As you move closer the smell becomes stronger, you haven't got your warrant badge. What would you do? EDIT: Council - I am referring to School Grounds/ Leisure Centres etc. Badge - Should be Card as pointed out in comments.

You are called to a house where there is report of a large disturbance within the location. The report details that some of the occupants are fighting with hammers but gives no details on who. You arrive with a suitable number of colleagues and enter the property through the open front door. There are a number of people there, all verbally abusive, aggresive and un-cooperative. You deal with one man who is aggresive and abusive still but does not appear at that time to be comitting any crime and there are no allegations from the people your colleagues are talking to yet. There is no sign of any hammers in immediate view but there is a sign of large disturbance with som…

I was out the other day, came across a couple of people drinking in an alleyway (my borough is a CDZ) so seized their alcohol. My colleague did a name check on both of them and one revealed that he had been previously arrested for carrying pepperspray. It didn't occur to me at the time but would this + not having a good reason to be hanging around in an alleyway when he only lived round a corner be grounds for a PACE 1 search?

Hello all, I am presently going through training school and have a question regarding appropriation relating to a specific scenario. If a man entered a store, picked up a bottle of wine (intending to steal it), placed it in his trolly before losing his nerve and so puts the bottle back (leaving the store empty handed) would this man be guilty of theft? A similar example was discussed at training school and I was suprised to hear that by putting the item in the trolley (with the intent to steal the item soon afterwards) he had appropriated the property by this point and so theft would have taken place even though he returned the item to the shelf. I understand that you …

I'm an instructor with the Army Cadet Force and a couple of years ago now this situation happened: Where the cadets parade is in a business park but after hours. I.e The compound is locked after 7. Normally in the day there a few businesses operating out of there and although private property I believe that because the public have an assumed right of access that all normal road laws apply. Now on to the situation. The cadets are stood there on parade when from round the corner a banged up Ford Zephyr comes along. I noticed that there were 3 youths in the car. I'm quite sure none of them were old enough to drive. They proceeded to drive the car quite fast and quite close…
