See what others think of this scenario. A group of males are intent on stealing a car, whether damaged or not, and the contents from that vehicle. They set up an "ambush" on a road, which is a small country road. A car comes down and they chuck a log (extreme, I know) out into the road causing the car to skid, crash and injure the passengers. The offenders then take the vehicle and personal items from the injured driver and passengers and leave them at the side of the road. So. Robbery or not?

Whilst on patrol a member of public states there has been suspicions going ons at a neighbours house and that they think they have been doing a spot of "horticulture" at the address. You take a look at the address and it shows all the signs of cultivation taking place along with a strong smell. The occupant of this house is looking at you out of the window. Would you use your powers under S17 of PACE or hold out and get a warrant......??

if someone gives a statement they believe to be true about what someone has said, but the officers were present at the scene and said they did not hear what was being said, therefore doubt the statement contents, is this enough for the officers to hint at arrest/prosecute saying the person has wasted police time by giving a false statemnt? persoanlly I do not think a ticket should be issued as the person who made the statement has made it on what they say they heard, surely if the officers did not hear what was being said that is not enough to call the person making the statement a liar and definately not enough to issue a ticket or hint at prosecution for wasting polic…

On Christmas Eve Smith and Jones are on their way to a fancy dress party. Smith is dressed as a Police Officer, as part of his costume he has with him a real set of hand cuffs, a whistle and a real Truncheon. They are in a public place. You are single crewed and come across the pair, they are about a mile from their destination. What if any offences are present? Are there any defences for Smith? What would YOU do? Discuss.

The other driver had failed to stop at the accident however both vehicles had come from a party and the reporting person knows they were drunk. I attend the home address of the registered owner and the suspect vehicle is sat outside with obvious damage to the side. 1/ power of entry to Registred owners home address? (Non injury RTC but suspect alcohol) 2/ Do you then require a specimin of breath? 3/ If he fails the test then arrest for driving whilst over prescbribed limit? 4/ If he refuses and you can smell alcohol do you nick for failing to provide / unfit t…

I was just wanting some opinions and different solutions to a situation I found myself in tonight. I am not a special (yet...), but I am a member of the Red Cross so do have a 'duty of care' so to speak to MOPs. I was walking back at around half midnight from a band rehearsal, when I and another MOP found a man drunkenly asleep on the street. After a bit of shaking I got him awake and found him to be very drunk, he said his wallet was stolen and that he couldn't get home, then he fell asleep again. So after more shaking and more talking I thought I can't leave him here as he will fall asleep and someone will call 999 and then an ambulance will come for him. So I called …

When seizing a vehicle, be it under Sect 165 RTA or 59 PRA, the driver threatens to leave their children ( for this scenario 10 yrs or under) in the car to stop the vehicle being seized. What offences would / could be committed by the driver if they actually left their children in the car and walked away?

So you're patrolling the local shopping centre, when a MoP comes up to you, telling you that a shopping assistant in the near by shop has "stolen" her money. Upon initial investigation, you learn that the MoP bought something with a £20 note, and was given the wrong change. To which she challenged the shop assistant, but he denies the claims and immediately becomes rather defensive and unhelpful. He's told the MoP that the manager is out, and he's the duty manager. What would you do?

I've noticed a couple of times now pedal cycles with blue flashing lights to the front in place of white ones. What's the offence(s) and how would you deal with it?

Not sure if this is in the right place but the Ministry of Justice have re-created the 'You be the judge' website. Worth a play when you get a moment.

PC Smith is investigating a burglary where a fingermark recovered from the scene matches that held on record of Bob Richards. PC Smith attends Bob's house but his wife says he's not home. She tells PC Smith that when he comes back she'll tell him to go to the police station. Three hours later Bob attends the police station and asks to speak to PC Smith, who is still on duty. PC Smith meets Bob at the front desk. You are PC Smith - what do you do?

PC Brown is on duty at the station, and leaves to go on foot patrol. Within 10 seconds of walking out of the station he sees some graffiti on the wall of a shop which adjoins the police station. The graffiti is large lettering and black and red in colour, it appears to have been done with an aerosol. A female is stood just a few feet away on the pavement, not doing anything in particular. PC Brown looks at her closely and sees that she has black and red marks on her hands, wrists and the cuffs of her sweater. PC Brown says to her "I think you and I need to talk about this". The female replies "ok, no problem I know you've got a job to do" and walks just a few steps …
