Ok, so this is something that has happened recently and this is a true story! But I want to know what you would do if you was in this position. So, a family of 3;- Father, in his 40's, about 5ft 4", chubby Mother, in her late 30's/early 40's. around 5ft 9/10", neutral build Son, aged 19, muscular build This family lives in an area know for being a rough community, that has gypsy travellers and lots of ethnic communities around. The son, aged 19, had a girlfriend that he caught sniffing around with a gypsy traveller, he fights with the traveller but the problem is not resolved. They go back to the house, after his father picked him up and split up the fight. The …

Scenario: You're a MOP or perhaps off-duty (out of uniform) constable. You see a motorist, clearly drunk, attempting to drive over a pedestrian crossing (one of the islands between traffic lights) The vehicle is moving slowly, but it's obvious that if they got up to speed they would cause serious damage to themselves, others, property etc.. Would you be justified in hauling said DD out of their car and detaining them until a uniformed constable arrived under common law? This is actually a scenario I witnessed, although in the real life one officers were already there getting the guy out (sec 4 RTA)

This actually happened the other day so I was wondering what any of you guys would/might do, if anything.... So, your'e an off duty SC/PC sat on the bus. On get two women who go and sit behind you. The bus is almost full with OAP's, young children and parents. The two women who sat behind you start talking and one of them uses a lot of strong language in her conversation. She is also very loud so a lot of other people can't help but over-hear it. As they continue to talk her language gets even worse and she is now being stared at by most of the bus, some people look to be getting distressed/annoyed about her. You have your warrant card with you (bearing in mind you did…

Okay, so for whatever reason, you're on foor patrol, town centre, midweek in the daytime in full uniform with an oppo, you're walking past, say for arguments sake, the job centre. you happen to know the person on the front desk, so you just poke your head in to say "Hi". Suddenly someone talking to one of the advisors looks over at you, jumps up to his feet and legs it out of a door, so, you give chase and catch him. male is white, average height, dark hair, no identifying features wearing dark tracksuit and trainers (mr average job centre user) the person refuses to tell you why they ran and refuses to give details, neither you nor your oppo knows him what do you…

Here is the scenario; You are travelling in your vehicle when you see by the side of the road on the grass verge outside of any fence boundaries to private property a pile of sawn logs/branches You have a wood burner / open fire at home and you need to stock up on fuel so you stop and load the logs into the back of your vehicle and take them home. Has an offence been committed or can you help yourself?

A group of friends are near to a bicycle rack. There is a bike on the rack and it is locked to the rack with a bike lock. One member of the group has with him a bicycle lock of his own, and decides that it would be funny to attach his lock around the bike and the rack to prevent the owner of the bike from removing it. He is careful to apply the lock in such a way that he does not move or do any damage to the bike or the bike rack. He leaves the lock in place and walks away, intending to come back some other day to see whether the bike is still there. Has the prankster committed any offences, and if so what are they? Would the owner of the bike be legally justified in…

Guy & Girls The situation is that a guy at work has provided me with evidence (video clearly able to ID index etc) of vehicles using the hard shoulder of the M1 during heavy traffic between junctions where no restrictions are in place requiring/allowing the use of the hard shoulder it was just one of those SWOT days. I did not want to put him off doing his bit, so what would you do with the information?

Ok, This may prove a controversial one but here goes. I think I already know the answer to this but I'd quite like to see if there's a consensus. You're very good friends with a newsagent around the corner, to the point where you socialise often and you know each other's numbers. You live about two doors down from the newsagent. One day he calls you and says that it's an emergency, he is being robbed, he has called the police but there are a "couple" of men who are trying to take his cash register and smash up his store. The line goes silent abruptly. After dialling 999 you decide you can't abandon him and decide to go help. On the way out the door there is a small, ro…

Hi all This has actually happened and I am keen to get peopls opinions. I used to be involved with the army cadets and having just done my attestation, I have been asked if I will go down and do a show and tell. Is this taboo or is there nothing wrong with uniforming up and going down for a night, showing them cuffs, asp and how they work as well as doing a bit of education on the specials (some of them are at the age to apply). You're thoughts please!

A male aged around mid 50's asleep next to a bush near to a crossroads, he is not drinking, abusing any passers by, not obstructing the highway and when approached doesnt need medical attention and requests to be left alone to sleep (he has consumed alcohol and it is 12.00pm inthe afternoon). Control pass numerous jobs from MoP worried about this male but as he has been spoken to does he commit offences or how would you deal with him?

The scenario: driver using mobile phone. You pull them over, issue EFPN. You then decide to breathalyze them (not because you can smell alcohol but because they have committed an offence). If the driver refuses is it a fail to provide or are you clutching at straws because you can't smell alcohol. It does state in the wording of the RTA [F16 Power to administer preliminary tests (1)If any of subsections (2) to (5) applies a constable may require a person to co-operate with any one or more preliminary tests administered to the person by that constable or another constable. (4)This subsection applies if a constable reasonably suspects that the person— (a)is or has b…

(Far fetched I know, but this is Scenario City !) John dies, and in his will stated that he wanted his body to be donated to medical science, however his wife (who is also an executrix to his will) cant bear the thought of him being used by medical students, so goes against his wishes and decides to have him buried. She has a wake in which the body is displayed. The body is in a side room of the venue where the wake is being held. Fred and Jim, who know of Johns direction in his will and do not agree with the wifes decision to override it, are invited to the wake. While they are there (as invited guests) they take Johns body from the casket and transport it to the local …
