So, you're on duty at a static point on a road where vehicles are prohibited from driving. You give a direction to a vehicle to stop, it does and your colleague speaks to the driver who is in work uniform (for the local kebab house) and has a food storage box in the passenger footwell. You run the car through and the insurance comes back with SDP only. You question the driver, who denies driving with food for delivery. You decide to give him a STERN warning and remind him not only will the car be taken away from him, he will gain 6 points, a £200 fine and if he caused an accident could go to prison. You decide to nominate the car for ANPR for the next two days with m…

A female is looking to buy a new house in a swanky area. She approaches the property developer who says that he will sell her a much sought after property as long as she has sex with him ten times. The woman agrees. After having sex five times, the male says that he was lying in order to have sex with her. The female would not have had sex with him if it were not for the promise of being able to purchase the desired house. What offences, if any, has the male committed?

A Police Officer is called to a concern for safety in a dwelling, upon arrival the PC is invited into the house and finds the caller has cut his/her arms with a knife and is bleeding heavily, this person is asked by the PC to join him/her outside to wait for the ambulance and get some fresh air (Away from other family members which are not helping the situation), the person agrees to wait outside. Whilst waiting for the ambulance the PC asks the person "WHERE IS THE ARTICLE YOU USED TO CUT YOURSELF?", person replies "I AM NOT TELLING YOU". At this point the PC decides he/she has enough grounds to search the person under section 1 of PACE (Offensive weapon), with the inten…

Could you ever be sucessfully prosecuted for conducting the 'Schroedingers Cat' experiment? Given that it would never be your intention to open the box, and in all likelihood it would be the RSPCA that will open the box and ultimately determine the fate of the cat, you would have the defence that all the time the box was closed the cat was as much alive and well as it was dead, and that ultimately by opening the box the body that is bringing the prosecution (RSPCA) is also the body responsible for the death and should therefore be the defendant and not you... (assuming the cat is dead when the box is opened). Over to you...

Scenario: One Way Street You’re in civvies, warrant card in pocket and you see someone driving up the wrong way, on a one way street. What can you do/ would you do? See attached photo. The red lines indicate the start and stop of the one way system. Tamworth Avenue runs from left to right From the start of Raglan Avenue (where the red line is – directly on this line), heading down towards Sangate Road is one way and a handy shortcut if you travel up it the wrong way.

Right, I'm doing up a motorbike I bought for when I hopefully soon pass my test! I blew the set of dials it had on it, so I had to purchase some more, now these have less mileage on them than the previous ones. So come mot time what do I do? Obviously it will look dodgy won't it!?

This a real scenario that happened yesterday... ...a person went to a car boot sale on Sunday (yesterday) morning then took all their unsold items to a charity shop in the afternoon. The shop was closed so they left the donations outside the shop (I know they don't like you doing this). They then drove past this morning before the shop was open and the items were gone with no time for the shop to open and retrieve them. I'm thinking that the charity had not assumed ownership of the items therfore it was not their loss. The owner of the goods had in effect abandoned them so it was not their loss either. How about theft by finding? There is no I/P as such. Any ideas…

Here is a scenario for you all... So you've never really got on with a fellow colleague (cop) and on a shift you both have a disagreement, but he/she decided to take it too far and becomes quite threatening in their behaviour, you have asked them numerous times to calm down and stop but they dont listen to you and it results in one of the following scenarios A) they become verbally insulting and physically threatening by getting in your face or B) they get so angry that they actually assault you what would you do??? raise a grievance or arrest them? Can you actually arrest a fellow colleague whist both are on duty?? I know it would cause uproar but surely if they co…

is it a conflict of interest if I investigate a burglary that has happened to me?

Apologies for the long scenario... but I'm keen to get thoughts on this... If you relay how this would be dealt with in your force area, please let me know whether the force is MetLand or not. ----- You're a constable on foot patrol with a PCSO close by. You're in a busy part of town where there are a few bars and clubs nearby, and a transport hub. It's about midnight on Saturday. You notice a hot dog seller has turned up. He appears to be on his own, with a makeshift trolley that appears to contain a fairly large 5 or 10kg gas canister that powers a little hotplate where he prepares sausages. You recognise him from a week ago, where you had warned him that without a li…

I've just seen THE biggest Leeds Rhino fan. He has a club sticker, oval, about 8" tall by 12" wide just below the rear view mirror in the centre of the front windscreen. This has to be an offence, but what is it?

So the other day, I had to attend a NDAC course for a collision i had a fair few months ago, and thanks to the speedy service of a certain force i heard back late.. Anyway during this course start they went through the process of checking everyone licence and eye sight. whilst checking the licences, one gentlemen's picture was out of date, I was under the impression that the photo and the licence ran out at the same time as you cant have a valid licence with and invalid photo? they then still allowed him to drive on the course. is this not an offence of driving otherwise in accordance of a licence? Thanks in advance Sam
