A scenario for you all - police are called to an address by the householder after an agitated woman (who I'll call A) has run into her house claiming she is being chased. The householder has shut the door, and two people, a man and a woman (B and C), have knocked a moment later. This has upset A so much that the householder has refused to open the door and dialled 999. When officers arrive they speak to C first of all who states she is a nurse with the crisis team and A is a patient who she is trying to take to a unit at the local hospital for treatment, but has panicked and run off; this is confirmed to all be above board, and C specifically states that if A refused to c…

Now there has been a thread about the legality of carrying cuffs and a baton off duty. And I'm pretty sure it was established that carrying a baton off duty is just like carrying any other offensive weapon (with the odd exception, eg on way to/from duty) However, How about if you were in your house, and all your kit is kept at home. You look out of your window to see two men fighting. Not suggesting that you should run out and attempt to deal with it yourself, but you have all your PPE with you? Would this be acceptable do you think? As you are still off duty...

Interesting scenario here, obviously with out any other information, what's your take on the video? One thing that worries me, is at the end, with the officer having the girl in the headlock, walking backwards with his CS out. However it didn't look like he was applying any pressure, but personally, i think it was handled rather well. Edit: Reading the comments, people seem to be supporting the Police for once

Hay guys, I was just watching the Bill and it came to my attention what a dangerous job I am going to be doing. So if somehow I was injected with a full load of heroine and found out the needle was dirty what on earth would happen. Can it be treated if it was injected then straight to the hospital. Would it prevent me from being on duty in the future if I found out that I was HIV. How much time in my lafespan would I have left (I know cases could be different...but on average) Let me know, Stu

Having recently watched the film 'Knocked Up', I started thinking about what exactly constitutes rape. For those that haven't seen the above film, a girl invites a guy round to her house and they have consensual sex. However, the girl doesn't realise that the guy isn't wearing a condom. This got me thinking of the below example Person A and person B meet up with the intention of having consensual sex. Person A tells person B clearly that in order for the sex to occur, person B must wear a condom. Person B tells person A that he will wear a condom, but does not actually use one. Person A thinks that person B is wearing a condom and allows sex to occur. Afterwards, perso…

Real scenario this - not for me but someone came and asked me and I wasn't 100% sure of the answer. If A blackmails B, B being a resident of a foreign country and A making the demands over the internet from the UK (E&W). Which juridstiction would be responsible for investigating a prosecuting the offence? I was under the impression that the offence is still complete and seeing as A was making the demand from the UK, then he would be guilty of the offence here and could be charged with the offence here. The advice I gave was to contact the relevent territorial police force and also to speak to a solicitor in the country where the victim resides.

I am completing a Police, Law and Community course and have become stumped on the following scenario. I was wondering if it would be ok to ask for peoples opinions? 'Billy, Jo and Iqbal are all 11 year old boys who live near a railway line. They have gone to the woods to play, near to where the rail track goes into a tunnel. They are playing catch with a plastic frisbee. Iqbal throws the frisbee to Billy, who misses the catch. The frisbee goes over the fence and lodges in the signal apparatus controlling trains entering the tunnel. Billy climbs over the fence onto the embankment and tries to shin up the signal post to free it. He cannot do it and so Jo gets some stones …

I had a disarrangement with a law teacher and wanted to e some more opinions or advice. If you have a spouse and they are having a stroke or heart attack that could be fatal, IN your own home and you look at the and them taunt and leave them without calling 999 or helping in any way, resulting in their death, when you did not even call 999 and actually knew that they would die, so AKA you know if you don't help they will die - and remember its not a stranger, its your husband/wife. ( don't matter about why it happens, just the law on it. not sure if this should be in law forum in that case ) Is this murder or not?

Not a really a scenario, more of a "What would you do?" The back ground: I work in a shop selling loans, doing money transfers etc. so I get to know my customers quite well and am on first name terms with the regulars. One of my regulars (lets call her Eve) told me around Christmas time that she had split up from her partner because of the "arguments". I have recently found out that Eve is seeing another regular customer of mine (lets call him Adam), but was unaware of the length of this relationship. It turns out the ex-partner is still the current partner. They have been together for 2 years. Anyway, on Saturday Adam and Eve both came in, and Eve had her arm…

A male is being drunk and dissorderly on a night out and you decide to give him a Section 27 notice order to leave the town centre for 24 hours. Male comes back an hour later and is continuing to be drunk and dissorderly. Would you arrest for Breach of Section 27 order or Drunk and Dissorderly? Or both?

Person A is using a cash machine at 0100 in the morning and they have just entered their pin number in and it comes up with the screen to select how much they want to withdraw, Person B, who isn't known to person A, runs up and presses the £200 button. Person B then runs off never to be seen again, he did not take anything. Person A then defaults on his mortgage since it is due out later on that same day. Any offences committed?

I know this isnt a legal advice section. Just a situation that happened to a friend. Woman on her own with a severely disabled child opens her front door to a courier whos expecting to pick up a product for returns. Woman says i didnt have time to re-package product, courier gets annoyed starts shouting in an aggressive threatening way, then goes on to demand the woman pay for his petrol. Woman becomes alarmed, distressed and feels harassed as she closes the door. The courier who is male and considerably bigger says he is not leaving until the woman pays for his petrol, and starts banging on the door and ringing the bell continuously. My understanding is when customers n…

This is part of my (UN-assessed) uni work and wonder what you think of it? (I have already completed the task but thought I'd get a second opinion) You've been given the task of spotting potential crime opportunities in a local bar/nightclub and have simply been provided with a floor layout (in the attachment). Where do you see potential for crime? What would you change? Edit: actually added attachment. Bar Floor plan.pdf
