A man is in the back garden of his house in the early evening, when he sees a couple of large rats run across the small wooded area at the bottom of the garden. This happens on a couple of nights so he calls in a pest control firm. They confirm there are a number of rats nests in the wooded area. The firm then quote an outrageous prices for clearing the rats that the householder cannot afford. He decides to buy a commercially available rat poison and do the job himself. He leaflets houses locally stating what he has seen and what he is going to do about it, warning people to keep their pets away from the garden whilst the poison is down. The leaflet also states that…

First of all sorry if this is in the wrong place but here goes. Approx 2 months ago i heard shouting outside my house, as i got to the bottom of my stairs i looked straight out the window only to see my neighbour threatening a van driver with a ASP!!! Well the van driver got out pushed him and then drove off very fast. After phoning the police i gave a statement and asked the friendly GMP officer if he lived here and seen that would he have gone out and challenged the neighbour. To my surprise he said no despite arresting him for affray and possesion of offensive weapon. So my question is...What would you have done? I would of gone out but im not in the police yet.

You're a Special Constable driving home one night, off duty, in the early hours. A car levels next to you on a dual carriageway, the drivers on his mobile phone. You take a closer look and realise its a colleague from the specials and a friend. Do you A. Report him for the offence next time you're at the station B. Report him to your sergeant C. Have a word with him, telling him not to do it D. Look back the way your driving without giving it a second thought. I know how these go so ill nip it in the bud now and say its not me!

Some years ago, when I was in the job, we had a call from a woman who lived alone that someone had broken into her house in the night. This lady lived in the middle of a block of terrace houses. She said that she was in bed when, somewhere around midnight, she heard her front door being pushed open - she knew the lock was faulty and it wouldn't take much of a shove. Then she heard footsteps coming upstairs. She was terrified, obviously. This was before most people had mobile phones and her house phone was downstairs. Then she saw the outline of a man in the doorway. He stripped to his underwear and climbed into bed next to her. She said he reeked of beer. Within a couple…

Real scenario that I had last night. Will update later date what Action I took eventually and why. Log on from 999 call: Woman calls in saying her boyfriend is going crazy punching the wall and hitting his head. Shouting he wanted to kill himself. Then log states he leaves the property. Get discription, apparently were nearest unit bar Firearms car, so we go the 15minute response 1 journey. Firearms have found the male. Male clearly has severe learning disabilities, it would be clear he has no real understanding of the world around him as he doesn't mind just sitting out on a bench tonight (0/-1 oC at this point 3am) Upon speaking to female in the flat, she and the o…

You are heading to a nuisance ASB job and as you approach a junction there is a pub to your right. You see two males squared up to each other and see one push the other. Then one of them notices you, they both look at you, one smiles and puts his hand up as if to say sorry and they both head to go back into the pub together. You're double crewed. What would you do from this point?

Here's a scenario based on a real life event we discussed in an OST session once. If you know the given answer don't spoil it for everyone else! That doesn't prevent you coming up with other answers though... ------------- For extra credit post your immediate (with a few seconds thought) response as well as the "after 10 minutes I came up with this" answer. If you can justify having any item in your possession / the vicinity you can use it. If you can justify your starting location within the premises you can set it for the purposes of the answer. ------------- You've somehow blagged your way onto the drug squad for a surveillance operation. Probably due to your sh…

Below is a case I dealt with when I was in the job as a newly promoted sergeant. A postal van travelling down a fairly steep hill had sudden brake failure and left the road onto the pavement, where it struck a lone, middle-aged male pedestrian, pushing him into a pub wall and pinning him. The driver reversed the van away, leaving the pedestrian very severely injured and bleeding profusely lain in the pub car park. An ambulance was quickly on the scene and approached the injured man, who was fully conscious but in massive pain. He told the paramedics that he did not want to be touched by them, but wanted his daughter to collect him by car. She was 150 miles away; she ha…

Billy is a burglar. Billy is male, 25 years old, 6 foot and well built. Billy decides he is going to burgle Tony's house this evening. Tony lives alone, is a 30 year old male of slim build. Billy enters Tony's house and begins to look for items downstairs. Upstairs meanwhile, Tony, who is a light sleeper has become aware of Billy's precense and is scared. Tony is a keen player of Airsoft and has several real looking BB guns. In the moment, Tony grabs one of these guns, a pistol capable of only firing small plastic pellets, and sneaks downstairs. Tony confronts Billy and says "GET OUT, OR I WILL SHOOT YOU". Billy believes the gun to be real, is scared for his life and…

I know off-duty interventions have been done to death on this forum so I do apologise but this one has a rather unique twist to it. You're on board a long haul passenger jet going from say London to New York, you're in mid-flight over the Atlantic in international air space above international waters when a passenger a few rows down from you flips into a drunken rage and begins to verbally abuse their companion after one too many pre-flight drinks, it becomes clear that the confrontation will likely turn physical and the cabin crew seem unable to control the problem, neither does there appear to be a sky marshall on board. What do you do? Restrain the aggressor and sepe…

This Is something that used to happen all the time on my team with my old sergeant. You turn out to a job and a senior officer attends and tells you to arrest someone even though you dont think they should be arrested (for say theft where you dont think there is intent and the senior officers thinks there is) How would you deal with it? just arrest anyway? have words with the officer? point blank refuse? If you realy didnt think they should be getting arrested how far would you take it to not arrest them?
