Independent bigs up the 'Wanky Balls festival' [/url] It is a truthiness universally acknowledged that a single journalist should not use Wikipedia as a source without independently checking its veracity. Nevertheless, examples of howling wikifacts make it to print with unerring frequency, with the result that such errors are now largely ignored as "dog bites man" tales of the web age. We hacks are therefore indebted to Saturday's Independent for a particularly stark reminder that Wikipedia is not to be trusted, even on apparently benign trivia. The paper ran brief article on the Big Chill festival, which was held over the weekend and was by all accounts great f…

We've just got back from a day at The Tall Ships event in Hartlepool. Years in the planning for our force and partners, so very interesting to see how smoothly certain parts did or did not go! One thing that really did jump out was the proportion of Special Constables utilised, along with PCSO's. The regulars were definitely in the minority. The staff that were on were on a 12 hour shift, and of course none of it overtime as rest days were cancelled months ago! Very well organised event considering the amount of people attending, we got the train in and out, and although it was standing room only, it was well planned and staffed. The Marina area itself was packed wit…

Hi all. Im already thinking about holidays for summer 2011. Quite fancy the idea of a campsite, maybe not in a tent, but certainly in caravan or lodge. Just wondering if anyone has done this and can give some info of where they went and what their experience was like. I quite like the sound of south of france, but wouldnt have a clue where to go. Or maybe belgium or holland. And whats the weather like? There will be 2 adults and 3 children (one of them a 1 year old). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I don't think it get's said enough in a Public sphere, but from a (mostly) outsider - thankyou for the work you all do on a daily basis, and despite the **** you get from people in both your work and personal lives - the work you all do is worthwhile, necessary and very much appriciated. I think you all deserve the recongition enjoyed by other emergency services and the Armed Forces. Despite the socital disposition, know that you are appreciated by anyone worth being appreciated by and I hope the decision to cut your resources is soon curtailed, more; your resource increased - and you can continue to provide the excellent service to the public you all do. You are as …

It is alleged that from time to time police officers have been known to play pranks on their colleagues. These sometimes happen during a quiet night shift and result in no harm being done. What prank would you play on a young female officer who is fresh out of training, very switched on and very suspicious that anything out of place may be the start of a prank?

Police consider device to help female officers caught short on the beat Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1300952/Police-consider-device-help-female-officers-caught-short-beat.html#ixzz0vuBMuIkv A police force is considering introducing a device that will help female officers who are caught short while on patrol. WPCs from Cambridgeshire would be able to respond to calls of nature without breaking stride if the 'Shewees' - a plastic funnel that allows women to urinate without removing any clothing - are given the go ahead by police chiefs. Is this some kind of kinky stuff?

Just so you all know I heard on the radio that next month the USA government is to introduce a fee to everyone who wants to enter the country. The current way of getting your compulsory visa waiver is to go to the USA government ESTA site and register this is currently free. However legislation due through in September 2010 means they will levy a charge at a price believed that will be in the region of £10 per person. So if you register now you are clear to go for 2 years from the date of registration without it costing you anything. I got this info from the Jeremy Vine show radio 2 30.07.2010 in the money or your life slot with Martin Lewis.

I was having a read of another non police forum and came across a thread where some poor devil has 5 verrucas on a foot and was asking for remedies. Suggestions that followed were eye openers, including the use of duct tape and bananas (not together....). It got me thinking, what 'cures' have you tried or heard of over the years? One I remember was my friend picking dandelions by the dozen and rubbing the torn stem on a wart. Then panicking in case she wet the bed!

Jackboot Jackie, or Pono Smith is applying for the post of Vice Chair of the BBC Trust, a three day week, salary £77,000, and as many expences as you can claim, including travel from Redditch to London, at the tax payers expence. There is a strong rumour that she could get the job, unless the Francis Maude stops her, which he has the power to do. Lets hope he does, the greed of this female has no bounds.
