http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/the-pope/7981933/Public-believes-taxpayers-should-not-fund-papal-visit.html In the present financial climate, the Vatican should pay for all aspects of this visit. I strongly object to any of my taxes being used to support his visit. This country is in the red to a great extent, and this visit is going to cost us around 12 million pounds, not including policing costs. Let the Vatican pay, or call of the visit.

In a damning verdict, General Sir Richard Dannatt accuses Mr Brown of being a “malign” influence by failing to honour guarantees on defence spending during his time at the Treasury, and charges Mr Blair with lacking “moral courage” for failing to overrule his chancellor. Telegraph

Anybody have a Movie quotation they particularly like ? Any that made the goosebumps litterally stand on end ? For me it has to be ; “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.” "Live live live LIVE!!

What are your thoughts on the whole being allowed to write a book etc thing going on. Personally i think its bad form and the court should have upheld the confidentiality agreement which he signed, knowing at the time what the restrictions were, he also knew the last stig was got rid of when his ID became known. If he didn't agree with the deal (and vast amounts of cash/good times that went with it) then he could have politely refused. This seems to me like he got bored/wanted to move on and therefore is now trying to get money out of a book etc not really caring that his position will end. He may well have been in the SAS etc and fair play to him but…

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/7972301/Civil-servant-sues-for-300000-after-falling-off-chair.html Some people will blame anyone for money. I hope this claim fails especially when you see what injured soldiers are offered. He must have been mis-using the chair to have fallen off, your own fault matey.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/tony-blair/7948108/Tony-Blair-to-give-profits-from-book-to-help-Royal-British-Legion.html What a cynical bastard is Tony Blair making this huge pay off to the Royal British Legion, in an effort to clear his conscience. I'm afraid it will not matter how much he devotes to the RBL, it will not make him popular with the relatives of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

New response vehicle. I wonder if my local force might consider one and, if is, I wonder if they would let me borrow it?

A couple of weeks ago, we were in Denmark where we met a friend of a friend for the first time. She is a lady who is a Danish priest and her husband is a judge. They seemed very nice, although a tad odd, but we swapped email addresses and said we would keep in touch while our mutual friend was in Israel. For the sake of brevity, I will refer to them as Eva and Lars. To cut a long story short, last night, my wife and I went to their house for the first time by invitation for dinner, with no idea what to expect. I soon found out. Having offered me a drink of wine, Eva asked me what my religion was. I told her that I was an atheist, to which she replied "good!" I was in…

Sometimes something happens which really makes you proud to be British. However, more often it's the opposite. Yesterday, I had to go to Gothenburg and, while walking back to my car in the late afternoon, I heard the unmistakable accents of two guys from Liverpool. They were struggling to read a local map and their difficulties appeared to be, at least in part, to their earlier imbibing of some intoxicating refreshment. I was the only other person around and, unsurprisingly, they accosted me for directions. Scouse 1: "Ayup! Mate! Do...you...speak...English?" Me: "I get by. Where are you wanting to be?" They pointed to a piece of paper bearing…

Will anyone here miss it? The only downside I can see is that serving MPS officers will no longer have sneak peeks at the new kit and uniform coming in to use
