St John Ambulance uniform off-duty?
by ChristopherM-

Coming back from London today, I saw a few SJA volunteers still wearing their uniforms on the train. I guess this is allowed but I would be worried about being off duty in uniform. Police and paramedics cover up their uniform off-duty.

Search & Rescue vs Mountain Rescue

It's interesting to see around me that there are three search and rescue agencies (there are no real mountains here, save x1 cliff and x1 gorge area), but tow of the SAR groups have marked vehicles, no blue lights, ambulances, or sirens and yet the other one has marked vehicles, with blue lights-sirens, and "ambulance" on each of their SAR vehicle. One LR Defender is also "Mountain Rescue - SAR - Ambulance". Why do some groups not have lights & sirens, some amber, some nothing and why do some have ambulance capability? Does it depend upon who despatches them? Police purposes would cover blue lamps I suppose. Or is it if they have Healthcare Professionals as …

When is an ambulance not ambulance? 1 2 3 4

So recently I've started to notice more ambulances out and about that are no showing the NHS logo. Now I suspect that they have been around a while but I've just lumped all yellow/white vans with blue lights into one category. I know there's a market for ambulances and paramedics at events and shows, but the amount I'm now noticing I assume they do 999 work aswell. I'm just curious really as to how good they are? Are there any signs I should be on the look out for in terms of a less legit outfit. I'm basically thinking of that guy on road wars a few years ago in the ambulance car.

Hello all, I am looking into volunteering with SJA Logistics Department. I have looked online and they seem to have a base everywhere and a vehicle for everything (even a bus with blue lights!) Anyone some experience of what I could be actually doing? Help maintain stocks of consumables – keeping them stored, rotated and recorded Help ensure stocks and equipment are maintained to St John standards Help provide St John people with what they need for events and other output Work with other teams, for example Events, Training and other districts’ Logistics teams, so excellent collaboration leads to excellent results But would I be more in t…

Green flashing beacons / RVLR 1989 1 2 3

This may have been discussed before, but is it not time for a revision of the green/blue light rules for other organisations? Obviously current legislation: But this was written before community first responders were really in use. CFRs respond to emergency priority calls (probably more than out of hours doctors). Most doctors now seem to respond with the ambulance service or air ambulance trauma car & use blues-twos anyway. Therefore it would seem sensible to at least add CFRs to the above legislation (like the added Military Special Forces in 2011 for blue). Or am I missing something?

Hello. I have applied to do some volunteering with the BRC. Has anyone had any experience of it, or got further knowledge? The role I would like is the Ambulance Fleet Support Driver (Volunteer). Esentially moving vehicles to and from locations, garages for MOT, checking oil levels, etc. I know they provide: * ambulance transport provision (emergency and non-emergency) * 999 ambulance support to NHS on occasion * Fire and Emergency support - helping people who have lost their home (they have campervans and hot food etc) * Emergency Support Unit - not entirely sure what they do, it seems to be communications, or floods (boats) or 4x4…

Man pretends to be stroke victim to get free ride in an ambulance to hospital to visit pal
by Chaos +- 0 replies

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/man-pretends-stroke-victim-free-12070809 A man shamelessly pretended to be a stroke victim to get a free ride to hospital in an ambulance to visit his friend. The man has been blasted for his actions after paramedics at North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) revealed they took him to hospital after he claimed to have lost "sensation" in his legs. Fearing he may have a critical circulation problem or even suffered a stroke he was rushed to an unnamed hospital by 999 medics. But on arrival he walked out beaming - and admitted he was fine and just wanted a free lift to visit a pal on one of the wards. ***There must…

As with several other forces we are being encouraged to call 999 ourselves for an ambulance to speed up response times from ambulance. Does this really work? If it does why, it seams ridiculous that the method of contact would change the priority given?

Skill levels of Ambulance staff: I have noticed a couple of threads where skill levels of Ambulance staff has been mentioned, and there does seem to be some confusion as to what certain grades of Ambulance staff can do or even how to recognise certain grades of staff. Hopefully I can shed some light onto this to help members understand what Ambulance staff can do on scene. I will try to be as comprehensive as I can, but please bear in mind that there will be slight differences between services; if you are unsure please ask though. I shall list them in skill grade order which should help Community First Responders (CFR) Volunteer staff who respond to …

Ambulance drivers filmed

It never ceases to amaze me what some members of the public become 'shocked' about, or what the papers will publish for a shock headline. In this latest example of ridiculousness, someone has sent a video to the Telegraph of 2 ambulances training student drivers in overtaking manouvres, on straight clear bits of road on a sunny day. There is an allegation of them 'narrowly missing' oncoming cars, when nothing of the kind is actually captured. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/20/trainee-ambulance-drivers-filmed-repeatedly-overtaking-each-othe/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter I'd hate to see their reaction at the police practicing TPAC on an …
