Just been looking around for new opportunities and came across this role, for an Arrest Officer, I won't be going for it as it's only 15K a year but this interested me. Any idea if this is directly appointed by HMC&TS and if so do they carry sticks

I wasn't sure whether this was the right part of the forum to talk about these two organisations, but on the odd morning when I've been slacking from my day job I've ended up watching Animal 24:7 and I'm now intrigued about how they work. For example, on this morning's episode I saw an RSPCA inspector giving the PACE caution to a dog owner, and the narrator made reference to her being able to use "police powers" to seize the dog. That made me curious as to what powers these inspectors have. Apologies if this has been discussed already!

Linky - Next week LBC 97.3 are running a blue light week series, featuring police, ambulance and fire. You can even hear yours truly giving CPR instructions over the phone in the advert (shameless plug)... Should make for interesting listening.

I've looked about on ARRSE but I can't find an answer to my question. Why have the army switched to brown boots and a funny coloured olive green? Is this a tri-service thing or just confined to the army?

I was wondering if any one was thinking/ or has applied for any of the Prison Officer vacancies. NOMS seem to be recruiting nationally for Prison Officers via the Civil Service website. I have searched the web and can't seem to find any forums regarding the recruitmnet drive so I thought I'd start one. Hope to hear back from other job hunters.

Apparently they were on strike today... ... All joking aside... Photograph: David Sillitoe Firefighters across England and Wales will strike today in a bitter row over pensions. Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will walk out for four hours from noon, the first national stoppage for a decade. The union is campaigning against changes it says will mean firefighters will have to work longer and pay more into their pensions, yet receive less in retirement. The move would also mean firefigh…

Hi all, Just to let you all know there is a new series following the Ambulance Services in London and Blackburn. A number of us were filmed for it although I don't think they will show any of my calls as they weren't particularly interesting. I had a cameraman filming me for about 6 hours or so - you never know I might pop up in the background somewhere lol. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/999-whats-your-emergency The series starts on Monday at 9pm on Channel 4.

I've just seen a picture on the net of a "doctors car" and it got me thinking... When I was going through my driving lessons & learning the Highway Code, I was taught that green flashing lights are for the use of doctors-on-call only. However... Can anyone here actually explain the point in them? I have never seen a vehicle "on greens" except for the likes of HEMS, but they have blue lightbars anyway (with a bit of green chucked in - barely noticable). I've also heard that driving on green lights is more of a "please move out the way" rather than a "get out of my way" and that you cannot run red lights, etc. If this is so, surely they're not that much different fr…

Something that's always been a discussion point has been: Why do most LAS Ambulance's have the white lights incorporated into the front lightbar? Do they actually serve a purpose/is there an intention for them? Anyone who can settle this..much appreciated!
