@SkyNewsBreak: Fire Brigades Union announces firefighters in England are to strike for four days from October 31 in dispute with government over pensions -------- Not surprising really, this fiasco has been going on for ages now. Strikes have been getting longer and longer, only a matter of time before it got to a multiple day strike.

Let me start by saying I have looked and can't find another thread that covers this, and ask the MODs not to merge it with the long running thread on the subject of police firearms- and if they should or shouldn't What about other Law Enforcement, HO & BTP are mystically all issued with sidearms and the correct training, but then other firms start banging on about their need for them (much how they have with stick & spray) with the same training and SOPs would you support Border Agency, Customs even other investigations & Enforcement at a national, county and city level being able to carry for self protection or would it be a step too far?

Hi all, Was watching "Customs UK" recently and was wondering what powers HM Customs and Revenue officers have? And i mean more the customs officer side at ports, etc rather than revenue officers. I know some of them at airports and ports carry the older style handcuffs, so can they arrest? Basically: are they constables? can they carry batons? what powers of arrest? Hi, I know we have some people who are/were qualified as emergency ambulance drivers but after spending the last two days doing lots of driving around the capital this weekend I would like to know what is wrong with the audible warning equipment on LAS vehicles. I've now twice seen near misses where ambulances, not using their sirens have gone through junction on the offside, causing pedestrians to either step or jump out of the way. I would if I were on duty happily track them down and stick them on for dangerous driving. I've been looking into this to fill the gap left by leaving the Specials, but having difficulty finding enough info to make a firm decision. I've read a couple of old posts on here but they don't really give much info. Main question is: NHS/Red Cross/St John...Differences? I think NHS (NWAS for me) and St John seem quite similar with Red Cross more to do with Major Incident & event (the latter of course also covered by St John) Would anyone recommend St John/RedX/NHS over the other? Or are they the same? rabbit suggests I might be treated better by St John as they are established as a Volunteer Org whereas the NHS are not so much?

I was speaking to the other two main emergency services (fire service and ambulance) and they mentioned that they receive nothing in the way of self defence training. A paramedic mentioned that in his ambulance service they are given a minimal amount of 'Conflict Management' training but nothing else. I know there is now a specific offence of obstructing emergency workers but I find it surprising that they receive nothing in the way of self defence training. Now I'm not advocating supplying batons/sprays to them, just basic disengagement techniques. I've just stumbled across what to my knowledge is the first private EOD/IEDD firm in the UK. it also seems some of their staff are Specials https://twitter.com/RamoraUK/status/433906597979373568/photo/1 It's a new one on me, but they seem to have been doing quite a few jobs of late both in the UK & Internationally, could be one to keep an eye on.

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone has information on the role and/or duties expected to be forfilled by the above post? Brief background - Applied for BF Assistant Officer (AIO) post which is just a generic role, and have been informed that I wil be assigned onto a Custody team at Gatwick Operations. Basically I cannot get any information out of the BF recruitment team in regards to job desription for this role. Obviously it sounds like I will be doing a Custody officer role, which means working in the custody suites but thats all I know. Just wondered if anyone could shed some light! Thanks in advance! Adam
