What are your thoughts on the recent Channel 4 documentary, Party Paramedics? Do you think it improves the image of SJA, by that I mean do you think it will change many peoples perception of what we do as an organisation? I personally think it shows to people that we are not the St John of old, in black and whites at the pokey village fete (not that I'm knocking that, because they still bring money into the organisation). We're portrayed as a much more dynamic organisation that is very much on the front line.

Hi Folks, So I'm looking at applying to become a retained fire-fighter within Hampshire.. Reading the application form it states "NB: If you are a serving police officer you are unable to work for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service on a secondary contract." 1) Why would that rule exist? Can't quite figure that out myself. 2) I'm assuming special dosent count as it was asking that in relation to occupation? Thanks

Hello people, Hope you are all very well and entering in the Christmas Spirit. Just wondering if any one can help, I have just completed my Assessors Course with SJA and have to do my assignments (its open book we can use any materials we want! I'm not cheating lol) and I'm slightly confused. I was always under the impression that AED stood for Automatic External Defib, which according to google and every training course I've been on it is. However, in the up to date first aid manual, it says AED is Automated Electronic Defib. Any ideas? Sam

It's been a good number of years since I stopped being a volunteer with St Andrews Ambulance (or St Andrews First Aid as they are now known), but for some reason, I have been looking at the operational infrastructure between the counterparts. What seems to be becoming more apparent is that the St Andrews training has nothing on St Johns. My time with St Andrews also illustrated to me that the Scottish Ambulance Service have very little regard for the First Aid Volunteers (things may be different now). I'm interested a little more on how St John Ambulance work with their local Ambulance Service and would like to hear thoughts and opinions. From reading through a fe…

Hey, I was watching Soho Blues yesterday evening and I thought I saw one of the Paramedics (the red head in the Zafira) wearing what looked like a stab vest. Did any one else see it or am I just seeing things? Also do LAS crews wear stab vests now? Thanks, Phil

Thought it would be a good idea to make one of these for the other emergency services like the one in general discussion section of police. list: Your emergency service (e.g. St John Ambulance) Your role: (e.g. first aider) Your length of service (e.g. 3 years) Your location (e.g. Central Manchester) Your planned duty hours (e.g. 1700 - 0400) Any specific event: race for life What you did on duty: (e.g. saved a cat from a tree)

Hey all, Just browsing the app store today and I noticed an app called St John's Ambulance First Aid. I thought this would be handy for anyone who just needs a refresher on first aid. It is also much easier than carrying around your books with you. It even has voiced instructions on what to do! This app will probably prove invaluable in some situations where first aid is required So if you just need to brush up on some subjects I would get this app! Cheers! Heddlu1

Hi guys, Just wanted to mention these people^. I saw it mentioned in one list on here, but thought i would make a thread of its own. Not an emergency Service as such, but its still a service that deals with emergencies to a point. Visit SERV for more info, if you can get involved please do. We like drivers also, not just riders! Alot of cars are used at this time of year! My bike set up for tonight - Thanks, Andy.
