On 19th May a Public Information Film was launched on the website bluelightaware.org.uk which gives information to motorists on what to do in the event of encountering a responding blue light vehicle. This has been a subject discussed on here before and I would be interested to see if the advice presented in the film reflects what you would wish drivers to do, based on your experience of attending jobs on blues. There is a forum section on their site which will give you the background on some of the statements made in the film which may not align with your beliefs of indeed your force policy.

Just curious... If there are street parties over the coming weekend that aren't "authorised" by councils and police attempt to shut them down, what sort of laws are they doing this under? This is mainly for my personal interest, but with a smidgen of trying to be smug to all those who say the police can't do anything about them!

I was wondering if any forces had sponsorship or external business funding for any initiatives, especially interested if this has been done for Special's initiatives? Thank you :new_bye1:

Just a quick question, that's been playing on my mind for ages! I'm a student at Westminster Uni in London (obviously), who is just waiting for vetting to clear and then hopefully be a Special in training with the Met! However, I'm originally from County Durham under the jurisdiction of Cleveland Police. I go home for quite some time at Christmas, Easter and Summer and so I was thinking, as a fully attested SC with the Met, if I was to go home and witness a crime (something safe enough to badge out for due to having no PPE .etc) or just any other scenario where I would be able to demonstrate the fact I was a SC, would I actually be allowed to 'impose' on another force's …

Charlie giving a "Reality Smackdown" to GMP officers apparently. Although from what I can see the officer dealt well with him! It was Charlie who came looking rude, aggresive and arrogant. Well done to that officer for not rising to it and keeping things calm! Nice to see the backup who arrived was a Special too! Blows the "probably earning £30,000 a year" argument out of the water eh!

Hi I don't have a driving licence and don't intend on getting one, as my staff rail travel and pedal bike do me just fine. I was watching a goverment video on youtube about what to do when a blue light vehicle is approaching. As a cyclist I have never had problems with Emergency vehicles as I have just slowed and mounted the pavement if it is safe to do so, otherwise I will stop by the curb. according to this so called "government blue light awareness video" It says do not overtake a (moving) blue light Vehicle! Me on my bike that is almost never going to happen due to the speed difference, but I was just wondering if this is Law? is it an offence to overtake a m…

So, for those of you that have been on duty the past couple of days, especially on foot, how have you coped with the heat and the black uniform? I can safely say I was burning walking round the town centre. I had young males, who were topless say: "How can you wear that and still be alive... I'm even too hot like this." I did consider wearing my white shirt but thought "Hmm, that needs ironing. More heat for me then!"

OK this has been playing on my mind recently. I live outside the county boundary of the force I am a special in. What I'd like to know is if I find myself in a situation whereby I have no alternative but to arrest somebody within another county's jurisdiction, would I have to de-arrest and hand over to the local constabulary or would it be for want of a better way to put it "my arrest"? Anyone had experience of this?

Just wanted to make a post (couldn't find one) Welldone to everyone who got sworn into the Merseyside Police Special Contabulary yesterday night at Liverpool HQ. Including my sister! Hopefully this time next year it will be my turn to recite the declaration!

Hey everyone, Just a quick question - does anyone know if marks towards your IPS is transferable to another force if you are to transfer or not? I know the answer could vary dependant on force but would just like to draw an answer 'in general'. Thanks a lot everyone

A story stirred up from 2010. Has given me a bit of a chuckle reading through. Wouldn't mind being holed up on cruise liner being ex Navy. http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/8316681.Olympic_cruise_ship_for_police_branded__an_insult_/ Would anyone else have fancied that?

GOWISLEY a must OR just good practice?? If I suspect somebody to have on their person something illegal does not doing GOWISLEY make the search illegal? It doesn't seem right if I found a Kg of heroin on somebody but because I didn't inform them of which station I'm from or that they are entitled to a record of the search then they may get off with the offence or am I missing the point somewhere??

You can't help but notice that more and more security company uniforms and equipment resemble police uniform. I know that there have been cases of police officers mistaking security for police and similar incidents such as the case of Atracks - David Maclean who was cleared on appeal of any offences. Police Act 1996 Section 90 whilst making it an offence to impersonate a police officer is at best confusing when it comes to uniform, as the Act does not define what is Police Uniform, my understanding is that any item bearing the words police would be defined as police uniform ? So as long as the item does not have the word police on it it is not a item of police uniform,…

Hi all am new here and a friend suggested this site to me I have question for you all Am after starting a security business up and am after using motorbikes for patrols and alarm response and also escorting as well only for entertainment only . Now I do not know if this is the right place to ask, I am after putting hazard markings on the back of the bike yellow and red not reflected., and also a beacon . I am getting mixed info on this as I been told I can’t do this and others say I can have this done. With the beacons some say I can have red or ,blue as long they are flashing backwards and not front. Some say you can use yellow or for funerals lavender colour now I am…
