Dont know about you but we never seem to get enough time for the basic stuff, would be good to get some more training from outside agencies, does anyone know of any, not martial art stuff but police training that is line with our own conflict training stuff. Handcuffing, baton and control skills. I understand there may be a cost but for a days training its got to be worth thinking about.

Just in the process of buying my first car, , and the thought occurred to me. I have used one of those text checks for cars, that supposedly tie in with the Police and DVLA. I was wondering, if you were to buy one, but wanted to check it out. Could you check it out on the police computer, so cutting out the 3rd party who do it. Or is that against any rules?

Evening All ( LOL - I've wanted to say that for ages) Do any of you find that Specials duty make you a better person? I've found myself being more caring, affectionate and appreciative of my family since taking up SC duties. Meeting up with families that scream, shout and fight at 02:30, when my family are busy snoring, drooling and farting has made me realise even more how wonderful my wife and kids are! Guess which ones, snore, drool, and fart? It really doesn't matter!! I am in training and was made aware that Heb B jabs will be something we need/should have. At my medical I listed I hadn't had any Hep jabs but it was not mentioned that I need them or I should have them. Thanks

Morning all! So I saw some latin text the other day in an exam. I'd never seen the text before but I guess it was something I should have seen if It was in the exam! - It was relevant to policing. It was latin. I THINK it was something to do with trust/truth?. There was two words, opposites of each other I believe. Anyone have any idea what so ever from the worst possible description I could ever give?

Hi, this is my first post here so please be gentle with me! I'm interested in becoming a special although I've got a couple of questions I'd like answering if possible. Firstly, what do regulars think of specials? Are they thought of as equals? I don't mean this to sound derogatory its just that one of my friends dad is a regular and he doesn't like specials a great deal... Secondly, given time can a special specialise in areas such as dogs, riot control (or crowd control or whatever the politically correct term is!!) or firearms? I would love to specialise in firearms but not sure if this is open to specials.... Thanks in advance for your help!

This topic of conversation has come up a few times amongst colleagues and sparked some debate so I thought it may be of interest to discuss on here. Why can an individual be accepted as a Special Constable to then later be rejected at assessment for a full time position as a Police Constable? I’m not speaking from personal experience but I have come across several Specials for whom this situation does apply to. It strikes me as illogical that a person can perform the role of Constable for free but then ‘fail’ to be paid for it. So, I'm trying to become a special (only just had my assessment day last week) and was wondering if you have had any negative effects from people knowing you work in the police? Has anyone you know called you personally instead of 999/101 or anything like that? also, do you always let people know what you do? I have a friend who was a soldier and he was reluctant to tell people what he did until he knew them well because of how some people have strong opinions on war and would be abusive to him for having been to war. I like to think (provided I make it) as a special I would always be proud and not care too much if someone has a thing against me for it.
