I've had a little look on here to see if there is an existing thread but not found one (if there is mods, please feel free to move/merge) There's quite a hefty discussion on another forum about this subject. After spending a weeks worth of 'work experience' with West Yorkshire Police in December of last year, I made a few enquiries about further attachments of shadowing. Pretty simple really... If you want to get to Chief Super level or above, do you usually require experience in CID (i.e. have been a detective at some point?) It just seems most (if not all) ACPO level officers have been detectives at some stage in their career.

As a Special Constable, I get a great insight into the modern style of Policing and all the pressures attached. Sometimes I find myself sitting watching 70s and 80s documentaries or listening to 70s or 80s music pondering what it would like: being a special constable in the 70s, 80s, and to a certain extent the 90s. Attitudes appear to change slowly over time, relative to different generations. And things have definitely changed astronomically since those days. In the 70s and 80s I can't imagine the same pressures of the job for Police Officers, there were certainly no airwave terminals, and batons were wooden, and blue spinning beacons were enough, no need for super brig…

Hi, I'm posting for some advice, sorry if I have put it in the wrong topic, just got home from a 12hr night shift, so I'm sleepy! I start training tonight and only found out a week ago today. My manager obviously knew I was applying because she had to do a reference for me. I've had set shifts where I work for approx 5 months; Wed, Thurs and Sun night, and I recently gave up a Sun night because 1) I was finding it too tiring and 2) because I was expecting to get onto training. today on the m1 j11 a lorry hit the barrier on the moterway and crossed on to the other side causing a lot of damage with tailback back to j14 yet again the driver fell asleep long hours when is vosa going to do more to stop this happing or how can they tell how long they have been driving brfore it happens again? :D
