Hey guys, I've been waiting for about 4 months to apply for the Devon and Cornwall specials, the original date that recruitment was going to be open again was at the end of this month. I looked at the site today and for some reason it's been moved up to September, does anyone know why this is and is there a chance that come September it will be moved up yet again? I'm not annoyed about it as I understand that there's been cuts and so on. Cheers guys.

One of the reasons I went into neighbourhood policing is because I feel that historically the police have been quite bad at explaining to people what we do, how we do it and why we do what we do. I feel that in my current role I can take the time to sit down with people and explain things to them, to go to meeings and do the same and to just generally build a better rapport with the community at large which helps us in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes I really feel that I achieve this. Other times I am left pulling my hair out. Take this conversation I had with a chap the other day: I was dealing with a stop where man was smoking cannabis on the street. He was actua…

Over the last week I have found two people whilst being on duty who were so drunk that they were led unconscious in the road... Ambulances were then called (wasting their time) I am now thinning they should be reported for summons for S.12 Licensing Act 1872.. How would you deal with them?

Okey, today i was in town and near the police station and then i heard a strange high pitched siren (sounds like this the one's that they used to have on fire engines) but it was mixed with something else and i sew 2 police cars escorting what i think was a police bike. Does anyone know what they were doing or responding to?Also i live in a small town, if anyone knows Newark then they will know it's police station and in all my time i have lived here i have never seen a police bike.

How far in advance do you get to book in shifts for duty. My employer wants to know so that rotas can be scheduled in and so they won't clash with my specials work.

I'm trying to get a collection of images of security etc who look like police that aren't and police that perhaps don't look obviously like police for an experiment. I've got some photos from here already, but there are loads of threads and a lot of them have dead links. Can people post as many applicable images as they have to hand? Thanks!

Do we still have a need for Special's Supervision? If you think yes in your force area, what leadership training do they undertake? What grades would you keep and what would you remove? Please note i am clearly saying grade not rank (we have had many discussions about a PC outranking a Special's Chief Officer)

I have been a serving officer since 1994. During this time i have seen many changes from regulars calling us "Hobby Bobbies", saying were knicking their overtime to a recent culture where they struggle to manage without us. I work in a district with a population of 120,000 people, we have gone from 12 bobbies on the shift sometimes down to 5! Regulars are frequently asking us to SUPPORT shifts as they often have 5 single crewed units and would like the double at least a few units up. I was wondering if this is a common theme as police cuts take hold? Is there a culture where we are not filling gaps? Thanks

What is the best arrest you've had? Was it the best because it was thrilling, a great detection, a tough one, a job well done, a funny one? Would love to know peoples proudest moments!

Okay - financial incentives are not an option for most, if you could pick any realistic incentive for being a dedicated Special Constable - what would it be?

As I understand the situation that a person detained at the police station should be dealt with as soon as possible whilst in custody and must be charged or released within 24 hrs. PACE has 3 reviews as I believe one after the first 6 hours where an inspector must review the detention and the detainee may make representations to the Inspector ? 2 further reviews, the next after 9 hours and the final review 9 hrs later. Does the detainee have any rights under the PACE reviews to make representations and what is the position regarding representations when the reviewing officer is at a different police station from the custody suite and the review takes place over the pho…

Whilst we may have missed discussing the march we can at least discuss the outcome. According to the Met 32,000 officers marched today, based on the latest figures this accounts for almost 24% of the UKs total number (including PCs and SCs) of warranted Police Officers which I believe is a fantastic turnout for a midweek event that could only be attended by those on Rest days and Annual leave. Outcomes though are two-fold: 1- Nick Herbert said, on national TV, that this wont change anything at all and the government won't reconsider its position 2 - Keith Vaz has recalled Tom Winsor to face the parliamentary select committee owing to new concerns he has following toda…
