General Policing Discussions

Hey all Ok in my force we use the Sepura SRH3900 radios. The annoying thing with them is that everytime there is a broadcast on the radio the screen backlight comes on then goes off. I know in other forces the backlight only comes on when a button of any sort or volume key is pressed. This would not only be a less annoying option but would also save the battery life. Does anyone know how to change the backlight settings to stop the light coming on when control are broadcasting etc dosnt seem to be anywhere in the radio manual about having the funtion to change the setting of the backlight as you see fit. Any help from you super experts would be great. Cheers

Good morning, I was lucky enough about 2 weeks ago to sit in on an interview for a shoplifter. I made clear to my crewmate that we were not trained in interviewing, and as such, I would not utter a word. He gave me a funny look, and explained that anyone was allowed to ask questions in an interview, not just Police officers. More recently, I attended a job where a shoplifter had been detained in a store. She was cautioned, and subsequently questioned about the events that lead up to her detention. Ok, I know the answer to this but it's interesting to see who doesn't.. You're on duty as a patrol on a Saturday night (yes, tonight...). You come across a male who is under the influence of alcohol and is unable to stand and speak. There is about 30 bottles of beer around him and he is a well known alcoholic and Diabetic. Would you arrest this person for the offence of being drunk and incapable or call an Ambulance? Bearing in mind this person will have to be presented to the skipper who has to think about this person's health and well-being.

Hi , New member to the site, so I apologise if this topic has already been covered. I should (hopefully) pass-out from Specials training late June, and was subsequently thinking if it is likely whether I will be asked to have shifts policing the Olympics? Considering I will still be very much a rookie at this stage, I was wondering wether there may be any restrictions for new Specials? Cheers in advance for replies! RS133

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good audio notes for myself to learn the law as a probationer / special constable. I know there is The Police Probationer Audio Learning Training out there for £70.00 but that is a little steep at the moment. Anyone know of any alternatives? Thank you

Hi ,,I'm wanting to hear from anyone on here who's dyslexic thats either in the Job albeit Special Constable or Regular Police and PCSO or wanting to join. Have you been put off joining if so why ? What support have, or did you receive whilst applying ,training and whilst in post As a Dyslexic who's been an SC for over 3 years and has just passed the A/C to joining the Regs My passmark was 63% I would like to be able to offer advice ,or help, and even find out other success stories . Hi all. Firstly this was a comment in todays (Thursday 17th May 2012) edition of the evening standard that was submited by one of the contributors; Tim Evans. So thats why it's in General Policing, because it's not a news story, it's an article by someone contributing to the paper. As the title pretty much says. Since the age of 3 I wanted to be a copper and never persuded the dream up until 11 months ago when I first sent my application off to be a special for GMP. 11 months passed and now I have been given my training dates and finally have done what I've always wanted. One snagg. My work are being complete fools and not letting me take time off for OST which begins on the 28th May. their justification is it doesn't benefit them in the slightest. I just wanted to know ......would there be any sort of issue if a Criminal Defence Solicitor/Barrister wanted to become a Special Constable. Would there be some sort of conflict of interest or something? Or are there many criminal justice lawyers out there doing Specialing? Just a little curious

I have just stumbled across this little gem; List of Corrupt Police Officers 2009 to 2012 Interesting piece of work, however, it appears to be inaccurate at first interrogation of the facts. It mentions the SC (Ian Atterbury) from WMP who is alleged to have "posed" as an Inspector and a number of other charges, but wrongly identifies him as a PCSO.
