There are certain laws that aren't in the remit of the police, trading standards, health and safety, SIA, local bye laws etc. Is breaking these laws still a criminal offence, or does it count as a civil offence? Would it be specified in the relevant Acts that make the laws, that a body other than the police is responsible for them. Also, with local bye laws such as drinking in the street, the police do seem to get involved. How does this work?

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help with something that's been nagging me all morning. Basically, we located a juvenile missing person who had run off from home. When we spoke to her, she tried to run - twice. Myself and the officers I was with all held her at various points to stop her running. Eventually she came compliantly to the car with us to be taken home, but an officer kept hold of her in case she ran again. My questions are: - What (if any) legislation covers the use of force in this situation, especially if she had try to run again while we were escorting her to the car? - Would this class as an "arrest" and again what legislation covers it? hi forum members, I would like to find out about claiming property back that is being held by police, I was involved in an incident about 5 years ago, and some property was taken by the police. Cash and some other items. I have only recently decided to claim these back, specifically the sum of money; I contacted Surrey Police near the end of 2014, and submitted a written claim in November 2014. Since then I have made many requests for progress etc, but have just been told it is in process. Had another thought wonder through my mind. If you were on the street and someone spat at you, what would you arrest them for? Also, at a domestic incident where's there's been no assault, what could you arrest someone for apart from Breach of the Peace?

Hi everyone, I think this is the right section but I'm not entirely sure, so sorry if it isn't. I would like some advice regarding an incident I had yesterday afternoon and what potential options I have. I was driving home after University and as it was during rush hour the roads were fairly busy. The people I run with always aim to avoid intimidating members of the public, and obviously try to avoid damaging anything or straying onto private property, but I know of other freerunning groups being stopped by the police, including one runner who claimed to have been threatened with arrest. I've never had any problems with local officers while out training, but is there anything in law that would stop somebody from freerunning in a public place that we should be aware of, like a public order offence or something? Hi everyone, Can someone please tell me if it is an offence to pickup traffic cones and park there? No - not the one's on the motorway, I'm not a 'complete' idiot :-) To summarise, on my estate I have come home this evening to find that the local council are re-surfacing the pavement running outside of my house and have coned off quite a length of the pavement (cones place on the road right next to the curb to prevent people parking. Hi I have a question about how the law applies to the Queen. Royal.gov says "civil and criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Sovereign as a person under UK law" so does that mean you couldn't arrest the Queen if you saw her committing an offence? To make it interesting let's say it wasn't something you could use discretion for let's just say you witness the Queen seriously beating someone up in the street. Your called to attend a Pub after a fight, being only around the corner you attend the location and are told by door staff the males had made of in a Red car you attend the location and complete an area search that results in seeing a red car with a similar VRM five! Hi all I attended a call today which was a tenant-landlord civil dispute. The landlord had called police because he believed the tenant had committed the offence of breaking and entering into the property he 'used to' rent from the landlord. The landlord said that he had given notice to the tenant to leave the property (Section 21 notice) and that the tenant had failed to do so. The day after the notice the landlord attended the property, changed the locks and placed a notice on the door saying the property had been repossed and that anyone entering the property would be "charged with breaking and entering and tresspass".
