Any advice on a specific area of law is from either currently-serving UK police officers, and is offered to the best of their ability, or from members of the public who are perhaps aspiring to be serving police officers and may not hold the necessary level of knowledge to provide such assistance or by any other member who may offer their opinion. Either way such advice can only be treated as an opinion and nothing more. The information is based on their own individual experiences, expertise and training. It is stressed, however, that if any information or advice found in these forums is used by any person or organisation, then the respective police officer(s) and sta…

Coercive Control- Retrospectively

In short, is it possible for my late wife’s family to be prosecuted for what I now realise was coercive and controlling behaviour in her lifetime? My interest is in potential abusive/ coercive behaviour, manipulation through promises of assets, degrading treatment, etc. Not recovering assets/ Will challenges, which are just a money making scam for solicitors. Background. Wife died of 20 years died three years ago (late 40s) of cancer, leaving me and a 12 year old daughter behind. Throughout her life, a background theme had been that significant future wealth was in the gift of her parents. To back this up, her dad had her draw up a Will full of vari…

Hi all! So I had my exam the other day on TWOC and I needed some clarity on a question that I had got wrong. A women finds a vehicle on her drive way and needs to move it to allow her car to get out. She notices the window is open so uses the steering wheel to move it down the road. She doesn’t sit inside the car, just uses her arms through the window. Would this count as TWOC? Or something else Many thanks

Background information: I lent a former friend a substantial amount of money for his business , I later found out he had scammed other people out of money including his ex-girl friend (who is also a friend of mine). I asked the borrower to pay back my friend and I the money he owed or I would start legal proceedings against him. After much toing and froing through email I offered to bring the evidence that he owed the money to his shop and we could discuss things like adults... Thursday afternoon I received this email: All of the above are lies, even the bit abut threatening him with court. I only said I would take legal action and I had planned to send a s…

Disqual driving - code G

Hi all! I maybe over thinking this. I’ve currently got a case file waiting for review by my SGT for a disqual driver. He was stopped a month ago and a VA was arranged. I saw him off duty driving three days before the VA. He has admitted both. I saw him driving again on my rest days. He has said he’ll keep driving. I want to arrest him, interview for when I’ve seen him off duty and look at a remand. Sometimes the custody sgts can be a bit hit and miss and prompt and effect for interview may not be enough. (I’ve had a DP rejected for a high risk DA because I could have VAd them. Ignoring the fact she tried to hide and is NFA…).

Foreign Police Car in UK?

Hey, Just out of curiosity, if one was to buy a police car from Japan and deactivated the lights for road use, would that be deemed legal? For example a car similar to this:- Japanese Police Car. I can find all the regs for UK police cars and obviously wouldn't want to impersonate one, but have seen a japanese car on an auction site that would make a great head turner at car shows. All the Best!

Offences against the Church?
by MrTwoShoes- 14 replies

Hi all I was reading about different positions of office in the UK and a Church related one came up that I am now curious about, simply because I had no idea it exists ( that's if it does, wikipedia can be wrong i guess). I struggle to see how this would work without police involvement. Church Warden Powers In England, churchwardens have specific powers to enable them to keep the peace in churchyards. The following are punishable with a £200 fine:[/size riotous, violent, or indecent behaviour in any cathedral church, parish or district church or chapel of the Church of England or in any churchyard or burial ground (whether during a service or at any other time)…

An ex-employee was let go back in December 2020 due to alarming threats to other employees. We know the ex-employee has mental health issues, they were getting out of hand as he often made references to harming (and on rare occasions kill) LGBT & black people. He was employed for more than a year and only stayed because he was good at his job until his threats became increasingly worrying to the point we had to let him go. Paid in full with severance pay, he has been messaging us continuously threatening to harm/kill us unless we pay him more money and give him his job back. This has since been going on for a month with numerous phone calls, messages from differen…

Power of entry for tag breach
by guysey1228- 2 followers

Might be a silly one but I can't find a power of entry in order to arrest someone for breach of court bail, that being to abide by a curfew using a GPS tag. The closest power I can find is under s.17 PACE, which carries a power of entry to arrest someone unlawfully at large. I've seen some amendments might take place at some point - clause 52 of s.17 is proposed to carry a power of entry to arrest for breach of pre- or post- sentence court bail breaches but it doesn't appear to be law yet. Can anyone clarify whether we have a power of entry if we know 100% someone who has breached their tag curfew is inside their home address?

The Right to Abuse and Offend - Case Law
by Radman +- 2 followers

It's a bit of a dry subject but could have an impact on operational policing. A high court ruling just before christmas involving a Twitter Trolling case has concluded and quashed a conviction under the Communications Act 2003. The Judge stated in the report: "The prosecution argument failed entirely to acknowledge the well-established proposition that free speech encompasses the right to offend, and indeed to abuse another." Effectively case law now exists which clarifies a right to offend in law, this may well have wide-ranging implications on justice and policing including the original communications Act. Withdrawing implied right of access/ complaints of no " wet signature"

Loads of youtube videos feature people putting notices on their doors, which state along the lines off; " implied rights of access revoked to all bailliffs/police , attendance on property will be trespass/ trespasser will be liable for xxx amount of money" Another popular video is where the bailiff turns up with warrant of entry, debtor inspects warrant and states warrant is invalid because no wet signature is on warrant. Both above situations lead to a stand off and police attend. Questions are how does revoking implied rights of access stop a bailiff with a court warrant? Secondly is the needing a wet signature a myth? Or is it just rubbish…

Interesting question arose today... Whilst I understand that there is a defence against criminal damage regarding paramedics/ambulance crews forcing entry. Is there any specific legislation that dictates a power of entry? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

High Level Brake Lights
by Pee Jay *-

Hi - I am hoping for some definitive answers around high level brake light. Context - I have a convertible which is fitted as standard with a high level brake light and plan to fit a boot rack. Once loaded the luggage is likely to obscure the high level brake light. The rack does come with an integrated high level brake light (but a problem connecting it) 1) Is having the high level brake light obscured an issue (if I dont connect the rack light)? 2) Can I have multiple high level brake lights (i.e. the OEM one fitted to the vehicle and the one integrated in the rack if I connect it)? 3) Can I just disconnect the OEM light and not connect the one in th…
