as an off shoot of another thread about informed consent, I though I would throw in a scenario to explore the concept. Sid has been watching the football. Down the pub. There is a double feature, so he has been there from 12 and staggers home at 8 , extremely drunk. Dave ,his son , asks to borrow the car for the evening, Sid mumbles Incoherantly , Dave takes that as a yes and takes off to pick his mates up, sometime later Dave is explaining to a PC at the road side why he is driving his mates round. At 3am in his dads car with no driving licience and insurance and being 16. . He assures the pc he has permission and so hasn't twoced the car. The car is of course towed…

There are two protests in the local city centre, one being pro-Trump and another being anti-Trump. Miss A from the anti-Trump protests make a point about one of their friends (who is present) Miss B being a Muslim and Mr C the Donald Trump supporter from the pro-Trump protest accuses Miss A of lying asks Miss B "Where is her headscarf?". This matter is reported to you by both Miss A, Miss B and another MOP. Any offences? If so how do you deal with them.

One of your colleagues gets fed up with an MOP who is filming them and decides to call over the radio for colleagues to teach him a lesson "deal with a suspected terrorist" by pushing him towards a wall, taking his camera away and searching him under section 43 of the Terrorism Act. You are the nearest unit but don't have any reasonable suspicion yourself that the person is a terrorist. What do you do?

A man walks into a cafe and orders a drink and some food. It is delivered to his table and he eats it all without any complaint. He is then served with the bill at which point he shouts "There's no way I'm paying for this rubbish!". He is asked by staff if he'll pay to which he replied "I've already told you that I'm not paying for this!". He is again asked to pay and told that if he doesn't the Police will be called. He tells the staff to "get on with it and call the Police". They then call the control room and report that a man has refused to pay for his meal despite having finished it and not made any complaint until being served with the bill. You are then dispatched …

you are on patrol at night, round a corner on an estate to see a sports car doing multiple doughnuts, you put on you lights and he takes off in the direction you were comming from. Hiring a 3 figure speed and going though red light. However your sharped eyed partner has noted the reg number. You go to the address on the v5 and find the car on the drive. You knock and the young man who answered refuses to answer any questions either about his identity or who might have been driving. how would you proceed?

you happen across two groups of youth's Having a bit of a stand off in the park,a lot of posturing and name calling, however one of the youths is swinging a set of of numchucks ( rice flails) about and trying to intimidate the other group. You take action to spit the groups and detain the Bruce lee want to be, on suspicion of possesing an offensive weapon, However on closer inspection the numchucks are a training aid, made of foam and incapable of causing any sort of injury beyond mildly annoying the person being hit. He has however been using them offensivly to threaten to the other group, who don't know they are ' fake' . So,, , arrest for off wep or tell him not t…

Saw this yesterday: A Transit van parked wholly on the pavement, with the rear side door open and a large water tank in the back. The driver and passenger ran a hose from the tank and tapped into a valve via a cover on the pavement to fill up their tank. There was no sign writing on the van so let's say for this they don't have permission from the supply company to use any water. Any offences? (Except parking ?)

This is loosely based on a real situation. You are called to a flat in regards to a disturbance which is taking place, there's little information initially apart from there being items thrown from the upstairs flat into the street below. Upon arrival you find it is fairly quiet but there's various smashed household goods and appliances littered about the exterior of the property. Inside the flats there is a communal stairwell. It is also littered with glass, plastic, ceramics and various broken appliances which look as though they have been thrown down the stairs. 2 parties make themselves known to you at this point. It transpires that one of the flats upstair…

A patriot (Joe) decides to visit their favourite fast food restaurant and sing the national anthem of the UK after finishing his food and walking outside. An employee (John) asks Joe to desist on the grounds of it being against their policy. Joe ignores John on the grounds that he has no authority on the public footpath so John gives Joe another chance to stop before the Police are called. Joe again ignores John at which point the Police are called. You are sent to the location and arrive there. Funnily enough you still find both Joe and John there. You first speak to John who explains that he Joe's actions are a breach of corporate policy which prohibits the singing of …

A rogue bank manager decides to raid the safe from his workplace - Bank X and borrow £1000 to gamble at the local casino. He plans to return the money and keep his profits. However he ends up loosing his entire bankroll and has no means of paying back any of the money. His deputy checks the safe and finds it to be empty. He then contacts corporate headquarters directly as he suspects that the manager has gone rogue and stolen all of the money. Corporate headquarters contact the Police. You attend the branch to investigate the suspected theft and ask the bank manager if he saw anything. He then admits everything that's happened. Any offences?

A man has too much to drink and decides to visit the local shop. Upon arrival he then resorts to smashing up a number of items and the owner detains him in the back office to prevent a breach of the peace and then calls the Police. You attend and speak to both parties and decide to deal with this on the spot via an Community Resolution in which it is agreed that if the man pays up and stays out of the store he will not be prosecuted. An hour later you see the same man at the local public dance in the town centre. Amongst the dancers include a number of women and children. No one has complained about his presence but you and a colleague are policing the dance due to i…

A court usher requests your assistance in ejecting a man from the court by force in order to deny him a fair hearing at a future date. He offers you a nice sum of money and explains that the case's evidence is extremely weak according to a Crown prosecutor. The charge is a very minor section 5 charge for yelling obscenities at a court bailiff who attended at his home address to collect a court fine. The usher explains that the defendant will be getting fined without being given a chance to enter a plea or stand trial despite having not entered a plea. He then says that the defendant will be getting given a chance to leave the court and if they won't leave he would like yo…
