Hi everyone, My personal policing peeve... Littering. Let's say you see somebody walking alone, just finishing off a pack of cigarettes and they throw the packet on the floor. You're outside your area of jurisdiction (for example, you work for the Met but you're in Lincoln). What can/would you do? Is there anything you actually can do? I assume the paperwork for FPN etc is different everywhere and therefore not valid in other counties.

so, this scenario is a bit different, it's not about Use of Force, or using the correct powers... You're on the way home, not from the Nick but Holiday, let's say somewhere abroad so you don't have your Warrant Card on you. Your mate you went on holiday with has offered to take your luggage home with him in a car and you're taking the train home. On the way you get stopped by the police, apparently your description matches that of someone that just robbed a lady a few streets away, taking £200 from her as she'd just used the cash point. the identification is correct (IC[whatever you are], red jacket with hoodie, blue jeans, the description could be you) and you're sea…

How does jurisdiction work when a crime is committed in one part of the country by an offender known to live in another part of the country? Like "John was in Newcastle 2 days ago and he assaulted me, and he was only up here for the weekend. He lives at this address in Manchester". Does the police in Newcastle investigate the crime and then pass it on to the ones in Manchester to go and make the arrest or do they travel down themselves to do it, or do they just pass it on to the local force straight away?

When I was a kid (about 14 I think) we lived in a corner end terrace house. We were all eating our dinner one day when some guy just walked into our living room and I remember my dad jumping up grabbing him and throwing him out. This happened a couple of more times with different guys as the weeks went on and then we found out what was happening was a new family who had moved in a few doors away had a daughter who was charging guys for sex and telling them to wait outside our back gate while she went in the front door to let them in. Obviously she went in her own front door and left the guys hanging at our back gate. This has now got me thinking whether she was commi…

Joe volunteers in Anytown town centre every Saturday morning. On Friday night you see him causing a disturbance which falls short of a section 5 public order offence. He's had a little alcohol but can still understand you. You warn him about his behaviour but he persists and in spite of being asked to he wont leave the area. You take Joe's details under section 50 and start to write a section 35 notice (which has been pre authorised) excluding him from Anytown town centre for 24 hours but he explains that he's got volunteer work to do tomorrow morning and begs you not to issue the notice. He apologises for his behaviour and promises not to persist. Do you still serve him …

A cyclist crashes into the rear of a motor vehicle. No offences were committed and no one is injured. There is damage caused to the motor vehicle, no damage to the pedal cycle. 1. Is the cyclist required to stop at the scene and exchange details? Police happen to be passing by and are flagged down by the motor vehicle driver who tells police the cyclist is refusing to give his name/address. The cyclist speaks to police and explains he is happy to give his details to police but does not want them passed to any third parties. 2. What do you do? The motor vehicle driver accepts it is a civil matter but cannot understand how to pursue the cyclist if he refuses to exchan…

I was just reading the MPS Twitter feed and saw that an MPS Special was able to take a woman into custody who was armed with a large kitchen knife: https://twitter.com/mpsspecials/status/726689361731960832. It made me curious, how do police in the U.K. typically respond when to a suspect armed with a knife? And what actions are emphasized during that response? To create distance and try to talk them into surrendering? To use a less-than-lethal option such as pepper spray, TASER or truncheon? To call for an armed officer to respond in case he/she is needed? At the moment, my own department is under heightened scrutiny as the result of an officer-involved shooting o…

Picture the scene, you're out for a walk in a nice leafy London park and there's a chap with his top off and a massive Swastika tattooed over his heart (identical to the one in American history X). Is this an offence? I was thinking section 5 but you might need a victim or complaint in order to deal with it in the first place...

You see Sam who is banned from York by their post charge bail conditions that were imposed after his arrest for a section 5 public order offence. Sam is in York so you PNC him to confirm the conditions are still in effect and am told that they are. You subsequently arrest Sam for breach of bail and radio for a vehicle to take him to custody. When it arrives you and Sam get in and am taken to custody. Once you're there the custody sergeant insists that you tell him the necessity for your arrest and wont take "breach of bail" for an answer. What necessity do you tell him?

Apologies if this has been covered before. I have just returned back from a holiday in Greece. Whilst on a route, approx 2hrs into a 4 hour flight a chap a few rows behind had been giving the flight attended a bit of aggro because they limited his alcohol. He had been quite boisterous a while and generally a nuisance. In no uncertain terms, the flight attended gave him a verbal dressing down there and then with the threat of Greek authorities waiting at the other side. The chap had a bit more of a whinge then eventually simmered down (presume he fell asleep given how trollied he sounded) Question is who if any of you would have considered intervening should the bloke h…

You stop someone using their car for a business purpose who not got the appropiate insurance cover. They tell you that they are employed by a bona fide charity and that the contract expressly states they are to use their own car. However they admit that whilst they haven't got their own business insurance policy they didn't know it was required by law. Furthermore you can see a vulnerable adult in the back seat who the driver explains they are transporting as part of their duties What do you do? Would you have a neccessity to arrest the driver in order to protect a vulnerable person?
