General Policing Discussions

Hi all, I have an interview soon for support officer driver and they have stated that there will be competency based questions, and the format of the interview will be explained when I get there. . Does anyone know what questions are likely andwhat the format might be? There is probably already info on this somewhere in here already (but cant see it for looking at it). Hey guys newbie here so sorry if this questions been asked. Im halfway through my specials training and have just been for my uniform fitting. I was informed that i would recieve a black bomber jacket with my uniform yet i have never seen a special wearing one just the hivis. Can someone please clear this up for me? Also whats the situation with the headwear? Can we choose a preference?

Folks We are all aware that in order for an incident to be classed as racially aggrevated, the IP (or witness depending on circumstances) only needs to 'believe' or 'feel' that it was racially aggravated in order for it to be classed as such. So, my question - what evidence, if any, does the IP need to demonstrate/produce to support his case that the incident was indeed racially motivated/aggravated? i.e. Jimmy throws a brick through a shopkeeper's window. The shopkeeper is Asian and states to Police "I don't think Jimmy would have thrown the brick through my window if I was British in appearance" Not interested in the semantics of 'attack' or 'public order' or 'assa…

I have just been surfing the net and found a reference to the British Transport Police tracing their history back to 1825. I then checked the history of the Metropolitan Police and found it's routes started in 1829. I have been lead to believe that the 'MET' was the first police force in the world but I now find it was the second. Has there been a mistake or is the BTP the oldest Police force in the world. I have send an e mail to New Scotland Yard asking them to clear up the above and am still waiting reply.

I am a newly attested special and am due to do my first shift in a few days time. I was wondering if any already serving specials would be able to give me any tips or advice that might be useful for my first shift. I'm sure that anything at all would be useful. Thanks

Hi there, I have recently been accepted for a job as a customer service assistant at quite a high profile shopping centre in the Manchester. I managed to pass the interviews which I asked your help for not too long (Thanks- the advice paid off!) I'm 17 in September and that's when I start the job. Hi- Im new here and after many google searches I decided to bite the bullet and ask here. 2 years ago this month I was arrested, taken to the station, fingerprints etc taken, interviewed and was given a reprimand for posession of a class b drug (I was 17 at the time). I have several questions relating to this. Firstly, I wouldnt of received an adult caution as I was under the age of 18 at the time, and I would of received a reprimand? As someone who requires glasses at all times, as mine are coming to the end of their life, I will be looking to replace them within the next few months. And I was wondering, what do you wear? Not just what style of frame, but what materials / coatings do you use? Its more so that if I'm lucky enough to be accepted, and I'm out on duty, should I be in a scuffle, and my glasses get knocked off, I'd like to minimize the risk of them breaking. As Specials, are you ever tasked with the sensitive job of informing NoK (next of kin) of falalities? Is this only left to reg' officers with specific training eg family liaison officers?

During a recent missing from home enquiry in Redcar in Cleveland a lady was reported missing and was last seen heading towards local marshland by a concerned witness. This was obviously concerning to all especially when X Relief Response officers were informed that the lady was carrying a candelabra when sighted by the witness heading towards the marshes. This caused the team to scratch their heads and focus in on the sentimental significance of such a piece of furniture..Candelabra? Did it belong to her deceased parents? Ok, i was watching CSI and i am fascinated by forensics and working out and piecing things together. So, who does that in the the UK police? Is it just done by special units in the police? because i had a look and cant find anything online (specifically the TVP) about any units that do this. Its obviously not as 'hollywood' in real life, but there is still the finger print dusting, woking out who killed who, how etc etc. I'd love to get in to this in some years to come. Is it 'CID'? Hi Firstly im sorry if this has been discussed to death before but I couldnt really find what I was looking for. I am soon to be a special in the area that I live and I think the one aspect of it that does worry me is that I will get recognised and abused (or worse) off duty. Currently Im working in retail which i suppose raises the chance even more of coming across some of the unsavoury characters. Obviously this comes with the territory of being a special but my question is what experiences have people had of this? Is it a real problem or I am just blowing things out of proportion some what?
