For those who haven't yet seen it, the Federation has published a letter sent to them by the Home Secretary detailing the government's proposals to increase our pension contributions. There are some figures at the end of the letter too, which is useful, if rather disheartening! Click - PDF File

Hi All! I'm new so forgive any inappropriate behaviour while I work out how to use the site I'm particularly interested to know how I can find out about a helicopter (I'm assuming police, as it was blue with yellow top?) hovvering over gardens in Corfe Mullen (south coast) on 25th July. It spent around 30 mins circling over the homes in the street who have chicken runs! Now me and the neighbours have hens that won't lay and are very jumpy, poor little creatures. Was there an egg thief on the run maybe? (Would he be wearing a shell suit?? sorry couldn't resist cracking that one...) Seriously though, how should I find out more? cheers!

The recent and ongoing riots around London have got me thinking: how does one join and train to become a mounted officer? Also, when is it decided that a particular situation merits the use of a charge; do mounted officers carry truncheons/batons too? I'm just interested to know about the whole process really - and my apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere; I did a quick search but couldn't find anything. Oops; my apologies for putting this in the 'News' section - my first New Topic; I forgot about assigning it a specific category!

So we're probably all familiar with coming across someone absolutely off their face, unable to walk or really stand, unable to talk other than a incredibly slurred 'Feck off!', completley uncooperative and really unable to look after themselves. They've got no mates about and you have no idea where they live. What do we do? We know if we nick him for D&I the custody skipper will tell us to take him to hospital (or at the very least a constant watch in custody) and you're going to be tied up with a hospital guard until this guy sobers up when the division is busy and you have much better things to do. So maybe we try and skip the middleman and have him taken straight…

Has anyone used the airwave radios to record stop and searches ? GMP are moving over to this and will no longer be issuing the paper forms, what are your experiences of this and is it easier ?

Slightly off topic here but an important question - why do you use the term "police by consent" and what does it mean?

So, i had my first lot of training this weekend with Hampshire Constabulary! One of the first things we were told was not to pay attention to what happens in all of these 'cop' programs on TV! I'm watching one at the moment and completely agree! One of the offenders is mouthing off about knowing his human rights.. The officer is searching him and the offender is telling him that he's not allowed to be searched because he hasnt been cautioned... 1) From my first day of training, i think thats correct! Dosent the offender have to be cautioned and told he's going to be searched under.. Er... Is it Section 32 of PACE? (I've only just started so im sure im allowed mistakes!) …

Can anyone tell me what happens after an officer uses his spray on a suspect? Specifically, is the can permanenty retained as evidence or is it examined & returned to the officer? I am curious as to how it compares to our own procedures.

Hello everyone! I am looking for a book that will introduce me to basic Scottish law and procedure before I join the Special Constabulary. I have been considering purchasing the following two books for that purpose: [blackstone's] Handbook for the Special Constabulary [Jane's] Scottish Beat Officer's Companion Are either of those books suitable for a 'beginner'? I'm not completely 'green' when it comes to the law, but I'm not experienced in it either. Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice. grdeano

Is anyone here level 2 trained and wear spectacles? How do you manage? I've got my L2 training this week and have just put all the kit on all at once for the first time just to get familiar with it. I noticed that aswithin about 20 seconds of putting the helmet on my specs steamed up and I could barely see a thing. Does anyone know any tricks to get around this - or am I condemned to police in a haze? To be honest if there is no way around it then I am minded to pull out as I'll be a liability walking around in a fog the whole time.
