Hi all-- I was in a conversation with somebody the other day and they seemed to think that specials can only make an arrest whilst in the presence of a full time serving police officer. I understand that just after qualifying all specials will be with a full time officer anyways but is this the case? Can you only make an arrest whilst in the company of a full officer? Cheers, John.

Hi All I am a researcher at Keele University looking into Penalty Notices for Disorder and Fixed Penalty Notices and the effect / impact they have on the magistrates court. I am looking to talk to Police Officers and recipients of PND's and wondered if anyone would be interested in taking part in the research, basically I'm looking to interview officers and offenders to see what messages etc these forms of disposals give to people and how this message changes or alters if the matter is dealt with in court. The study itself is funded by Keele and the Magistrates Association and I am a PhD candidate conducting the study. I have no particular angle on the debate I am nei…

Do we have any Fed Reps on here? I have a question I'd like to run by somebody who isn't from my JBB (by PM) if we do!? It shouldn't be difficult - I'm fairly sure of the answer already [and it isn't complaint or discipline related]..

Hi there I am a Special Constable and I also work within Human Resources as my day job. I am involved in a disciplinary with an employee who was arrested at his house for assault and battery and also for growing cannabis with intent to supply. I am just wondering, should I get involved with this case because I am a Special Constable and wonder if this may be a conflict of interest? The arrest and investigation is even taking place by the same police force that I am volunteering at as a Special Constable! Thanks for any help you can provide! Dom

Hi Im new to the forum, but thought I'd attempt and get a response with regards to SIA Door Supervisors. It seems as though Door Supervisors don't like giving the SIA ID Number out so that members of the public can make complaints about professional conduct, they seem to feel that they can assault who ever they like without being challenged. Has anyone else had a problem with Door Security. Take a look at the link video where door supervisors were challenged by a member of the public after one of there team assaulted someone, the member of the public wanted the ID number so that he could make a complaint to the SIA, the door manager then pulls out his phone and starts…

Hey. Sorry if this has been asked before but it really does bug me. I have just been watching Cops With Cameras and it was following various Met Police officers, none of which were wearing a stab proof vests. Here they are chasing after desperate drug dealers down alleyways and all they're wearing is a white shirt. Is it not compulsory to wear protective clothing or have things changed since it was filmed. Think it was about 2006/7 going by the vehicle reg's. Have noticed it before on various police programmes but to be honest I just find it crazy - I for one would never go through the dark streets of london without one. Cheers

You arrest someone and before you can say it they read their rights to you. (ie I have the right to remain silent, etc) Do you need to say it as well? Or can you just add it is necessarily for a ....?

Due to the fact that each police force teaches specials differently some officers get taught different things. On my training I wish we were told about drugs. We did nothing on the subject so it's all learning on the street so to speak. I also would of liked to have done some basic FPN's but apparently due to time constraints it wasn't possible. Just wondering what others wish was included in their training.

Firstly, to save everyone having to start their post with "I don't believe in bribery, I have never taken a bribe and I think that anyone who does should be kicked out of the force", let us assume that this is a given. No-one on here, I hope, will have taken a bribe, and if anyone has then I doubt they'd be stupid enough to admit it on the internet. Further, let's not make this a thread condemning bribery and corruption, as this should already be taken as read. The intention is for a thread on stories about bribes and experiences people have had, rather than a discussion on the rights and wrongs. With that in mind: Has anyone been offered a bribe, what were the circu…

Hello All, What do people think of the police reform and social responsibility bill ???, as we have the GLA elections Next year the Mayor Of london is going to have more of a say with the met police as MPA will become Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime Hightslights of the bill •replaces police authorities with directly elected Police and Crime Commissioners, with the aim of improving police accountability •amends and supplements the Licensing Act 2003 with the intention of ‘rebalancing’ it in favour of local authorities, the police and local communities •sets out a new framework for regulating protests around Parliament Square. Relevant sections of th…

I'm going to have to be exposed to PAVA spray very shortly in training and I'm absolutely dreading it. My tutors have reassured me that it doesnt have any effects on asthmatics but I've read a couple of articles that say that it does have some effects on respiratory function on people who have asthma that is more than mild. I use a steroid preventer inhaler as well as a reliever and although my asthma is well controlled, I doubt it could be described as mild. I had to have extra tests before joining and passed those so clearly I am seen to be fit for the role. Maybe and hopefully I'm worrying over nothing. Anyway, are there any asthmatics out there who have been exp…
