General Policing Discussions

I've been watching a number of videos on YouTube regarding the "freeman movement" or a "freeman on the land". The basis of the idea is that acts are not laws and that common law is the only law that need be followed by any person should they not consent to being governed under parliamentary acts. This is of course complete and utter nonsense, but I was wondering if anyone had ever come across anyone claiming to be a "freeman on the land" or anyone else claiming acts not to be laws and how they dealt with them?

So we're hearing of cuts, changes, force merger rumours again, cuts in back office, officer numbers down. The Specials are being utilised more than ever before. So what are your predictions for the next ten years? I think: Specials will eventually receive a TA style payment per duty. Specials will get to drive all vehicles and driving courses will be shortened to make them accessible. Tasers will be rolled out across the UK. Remember this is a TEN YEAR plan.

As the description says, does the video from their in car cameras and their handy-cams count as evidence, eg if a suspect says that officers assaulted him as they put him into the car, would the driver cam count? And after watching the last episode of Police Interceptors, they had a camera alongside the ProVida camera in the pursuit with the Golf, if the ProVida failed would the TV cam count?

Ok i have just started my Special constable training, i joined in the hope this will allow me to progress and become a paid police officer so i was just wondering if this happens alot? and also has anyone hear become a police officer after being a special constable? and also did being a special before hand help you when you became a police officer? any responses and opinions are welcome, thankyou.

Just a quicky! Is there any restriction of a SC becoming a parish councillor or vice versa?

I was just wondering if there any learning aids apart from OST and white notes which can help in perfecting all the handcuff techniques?

Hi everyone, Currently training as a special and really enjoying myself! Just curious about pay! I know it's a voluntary role... But is there any pay incentive as you work your way up from constable to 'sector officer'.'district officer' etc? Thanks

do you think the government should be increasing police and public services not getting rid of them ?

Would this be a terrible idea? It would be taking a lot of strain off the Govt and would probably offer more stability for service people. Thoughts?

Morning all :D A while back I posted regarding a street photography incident where I was given all kinds of needless grief and the general consensus here was that I should make a complaint. I phoned a number given on the website of the station from which the attending officers were based, spoke to a woman who took the basic outline of the complaint and told me that I'd be contacted in a few days. That was over a week ago now. Not sure whether it's too soon to chase it up, how I'm likely to be contacted (if at all), what the normal time frame is. Etc. Hello All, I am currently in the process of applying for TVP. At the age of 15 I was given a YRD now 18. When I asked theofficer at the time if this would affect me he said no and said I would notneed to discloses this to any of my employers. On the thames valley police vetting questionnaire it says “Previous Convictions and Cautions – Detail all convictions and cautions (including those spent). Okay, this is probably an incredibly obscure question, and Police Specials isn't the best place to ask, but I can't think of a better place to ask it - is there some sort of police "scientific journal" where policing issues are discussed? Eg, high level policing issues, such as accountability, policies, recruitment, etc etc. How and where are these kind of topics discussed? I'd assume the ACPO does most of the thinking for those subjects in the UK, but are there publications who discuss it at a larger scale? Just wondering if anyone has came across this website (www.policeskills.co.uk) as a way to gain recruitment into police jobs? I've looked at it but just unsure as to it's legitimacy as there is a lot of senstive information (e.g. full name, previous experience, address) they need in the application form.

I've been wondering this for a while now and I've not got an answer from anyone I asked! I even did a shift recently where we had a TV crew in the station but I didn't get chance to ask them! Now most people on these cop shows have there faces shown, a small minority have them blurred. I can't believe most people who we have dealings with happily comply or sign to say they can show their faces. Especially when they are under the influence. Does it maybe work the other way? Do people have to make a point to say they don't give permission rather than the other way around? Thanks!
