I have to attend court next month after nicking some scrote for being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. My line manager is very supportive of my work in the Special Constabulary (his dad was an Inspector) He told me to inform the HR department that my absence had been authorised, however when I told them their attitudes left much to be desired. "thats gonna be a nice little jolly for you!" and "wish I could get an afternoon off work to go and play with the police" Not one to leave these comments unchallenged I told them that the lad could easily have caused an accident or even killed someone, it could have been one of their children, parents, siblings, friends and that …

Hi, I know this is a silly question but I start my training 12th September, and obviously read that long hair is not permitted in a ponytail.... Is there a specific way for it to be put up with specific clips etc? I hate having my hair up. but obviously want to start practicing. Thanks Lauren

I am quite an aspirational person and plan to work hard to hopefully one day become a response Inspector. However.... I really enjoy working on the ground and hate the thought of being stuck in an office for to long. I think response Inspectors get the best of both worlds in that respect. Now, this question may well be one that changes with age, experience, length of service and not least the raising salary however is it possible that once in a higher rank to have a change of heart and decide you just want to be a PC again and go back to the beat? Is this something anyone has done or has tried to do? Interested to hear your thoughts and your opinions on the pro's and …

Hi I was wondering if someone could give me a little advice. I have requested a subject access form and have had a letter back from ACPO saying the PNC check has identified someone with details very similar to mine. In order for us to proceed, we must take a fingerprint sample. I find this very peculiar. I dont see how there can be someone with details similar to mine if I am the only person living at my address with my name and my DOB so why the need for fingerprints? Will the fingerprints stay on permenately? What are the professional thoughts on this?

Morning, Just a random question, basically about a month ago i just finished seeing my girlfriend and saw two officers, a young looking lad and mid 30's woman, i was just asking generally what they thought about specials, if they are/were, good idea etc and not once could they look me in the eye. I dont really take note of it that much normally but it basically looked like they were looking anywhere but me and if they did their soul would be sucked out! Just found it a bit odd. They seemed uncomfortable taking to me......Im not that ugly...i think. They just seemed a bit nervous really. looking to much into it or is it something else? Chris

Just watching the programme on Gatwick airport and they are focusing on the Police in this episode The narrator stated they have their own police force headed by a superintendant, now looking on the Sussex website it does state that there is a police office there as part of their force But my question is, why do their body armous have "Gatwick" on them and it looks like their force hat crest is different, are they just a division of the force?

My force is the Met however the force area I live in is North Yorkshire. Anyway the other day at work I was a witness to a RTC involving a boy racer crashing into a stationary vehicle, as I witnessed it I gave a statement to one of the traffic cops, after getting talking to him about policing in general I mentioned I was training in the Met as a special and asked if I could go on a ride along with him, he said he had no problem with me going along with him but needed to ask his inspector! What I want to know is, are specials covered on the insurance to work in another force area? As this bobby thinks I could as I will have powers all over the country, just need the author…

I've been accepted as a Special Constable but I'm afraid I will not be able to attend all the weekend sessions. Are all the sessions in consecutive weekends or are there breaks? I will be joining the Merseyside Police.

Hope this isnt a daft question I am in court on Friday (police job related before anyone says anything!) which is a day I normally look after my son whilst the better half goes to work. She has had to take the day off, thus losing a days pay. Although there is plenty of stuff about how I can claim MY lost days wages (which in this case I can't , because I haven't lost any), I can't seem to find any guidance on whether I can claim for HER lost days wages - as her losing her wages is a direct consequence of me having to be in court. I know the official position is that as a Special I should not be out of pocket due to police related duties, but what if WE, as a family, a…

We had our garage broken into last night. They took a bike and a DeWalt drill. Left quite a lot of expensive stuff. Thing is, my Dad has already gone in via their entry point, opened it and been inside and touched everything. Didnt think to wake me up first I could have told him to be a bit more careful. Given that fact and also that we're not planning on claiming on the insurance as the premium would be more than the theft, is it even worth calling it in on the non-emergency number?
