General Policing Discussions

When an officer issues an MOP with an NIP for having committed an offence, is it then definite that that matter will end up in court? Also, once an NIP has been issued to an individual, what does the officer then do? What other paperwork comes with issuing an NIP? I presume that if you issuing it verbally, you then have to complete a form on returning to the station. What form? Does this vary from force to force? Any info on NIPs would be appreciated!

This isn't another thread on whether you should or shouldn't get involved when off duty, but I would like to hear stories of when you have been off duty and got involved and identified yourself as a police officer, and why you got involved! I also don't think we should say whether we believe it to be necessary or not! Each situation will have it's own circumstances! Also I wouldn't mind hearing stories of when you have got involved and regretting it and learnt from it!

Have often wondered why escorting staff (G4S, some psychiatric nurses being examples) are handcuffed to detained persons. This practice seems so dangerous to me, risks are obvious eg headbutting, spitting, etc. Can anyone see any advantages to this. I'm of the opinion that front or rear stack with speed cuffs would suffice.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and require some advice off any serving CNC officer, or recruitment officer from any other force. I completed my application form for the CNC Constabulary yesterday, checked it over for spelling mistakes and errors, polished it off and sent it electronically to HR. I was then checking over the saved application form attatched to my CNC profile today and the sytem hasn't saved any of my changes and appears to have sent the application form only half complete. Basically, I start my intensive training for the Specials on the 17/10 and finish on the 16/11. I've chosen to be based at Sydenham (soon to be Eltham) OSU. I'm really looking forward to it. What I'm not looking forward to, however, is trying to get home from there when the shift finishes at 0300 on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Purely because I don't drive, have to use public transport, and live in Biggin Hill. Was wondering if anyone has had the same sort of difficulty or any words of advice? I'm soon to reach the milestone in every specials career - Independent Patrol! However, looking at my folder it would leave you to think I am not pulling my weight when I tell you I've been on active duty for nine months! 90% is ticketed off - yet the folder looks like, I have made a slap-dash effort. True, it's about quality not quantity but for nine months of great experience has to be presented with a thud when dropped onto a sargent or inspector's desk. Can anyone suggest what type of clothing might be most suitable, anything that I should avoid wearing and any other tips that might assist me? Is there any regulars who have taken paternity leave recently ( congratulations ) and have an understanding of entitlements, pay etc and can give me a better idea of It?

When someone goes to court accused of an offence and they pleased guilty early on (to various degrees), I understand that they can get some form of reduction on any custodial time on their sentence, ranging from up to a third to none. However, are there any reductions applied on non-custodial sentences? What I am inparticular thinking about is in the case of drink driving. Does a drink driver get any reduction on any ban imposed on them if they were to plead guilty? Is it to a similar scale as custodial sentences?
