I recently attended a meeting where we discussed ways to save the police service money given the current budget issues every force is facing, below are one or two of the ideas suggested locally. 1. No longer put roof letters on non pursuit vehicles used on area as they are rarely involved in incidents where the roof letters benefit the helicopter. 2. This isn't a typical "Off Duty" thread but I have a question. I've not had my warrant card for too long so I'm not too experienced in terms of general policing. I have a question, I have used my warrant card here and there to take advantage of free travel for my commute, however what would be the best course of action to take if a situation were to arise? Suppose there was a passenger getting heated with a TfL staff member, what would I be expected to do, if an offence had occured am I expected to arrest or could I detain until an on duty office arrived? I know you officers call it “JOB†but correct me if I’m wrong as I am not a police officer, but it’s a career! When applying for my job/career I would not have accepted it if there were a 5 year term “review†contract. I don’t want to get too political but what is this government doing? Being one of the younger members of the forum, I am very much into my Social Networking to keep in touch with friends and family etc! However the other day I came across a police officer who was using twitter to communicate with the public, by letting them know with what he is doing, what area he was working in, and what he had planned for the day and also asking for help in certain cases! My questions relate to this IPCC Investigation and it's findings published today; Link I don't understand, they tried to talk to the woman but she was on the phone and refused to engage with them. There are thousands and thousands of drunk people outside nightclubs and bars every night and they are probably all vulnerable in that state. With all the protests, strikes and Public Order events that have been occurring recently, especially with trouble-makers/'anarchists' we see alot of violence towards the Police. As we all know, they bear the brunt of it being attacked with railings, fences, fire extinguishers, concrete blocks, timber, petrol bombs and even their own PPE. But why is it that they are attacked by mobs? It seems, to me like a complex answer. Is it because the Police represent the authorities/government/'the man'?
