General Policing Discussions

I submitted my application to become a Police Special about 8 weeks ago now, I reviewed my application so many times, but still made a mistake. The police force i applied for uses a drop down bar of all the education establishments, upon selecting mine, i attempted to scroll down the page, inadvertently selecting another uni. Sent an email in and hopefully it is now corrected. Was just wondering if any others have suffered similar misfortune... or is it just me.

Wotcha - I'm a special with the Met, but I'm looking forward to starting with Surrey (hopefully) this September. What notice to quit do I need to give the Met before handing in my warrant card? I thang yew.

How many hours do you do and what does it entail. i do around 50+ hours a week ( sad some may think ). its hard to explain to some regs how i put more hours in then what they do. i explain because im lucky how due to the budget cuts a regular tutor seems to have taken me under his wings so any chance i get to do a duty i bite peoples hands off. i want to become a valuable resource so i can assist regs in the best way possible so i make there life easy, so far im getting praise, yet however come across as a wired for doing so many hours. now i love the job so much and would do anything to get to become a regular. my question is; how do i explain this without sounding…

Inspired by this news story, and by the recent 'slut-walks' in Toronto, I think it is worth discussing prevention of sexual offences. It seems to be a taboo to suggest that victims might sometimes contribute to the commission of a sexual act through how they present themselves (in both appearance and behaviour). I understand that the majority of sexual offences are premeditated to one degree or another, but let's just focus on opportunistic cases for the moment, eg. girls raped in dark alleys, or parks, or child abductions. The argument usually goes something like this: "You can't blame the victim for the behaviour of a sexual offender, the victim has the absolute right…

As a special, the majority of regulars I've met have been fantastic! Supportive, helpful & friendly. However, there has been the odd one or two that have made it very clear that they DON'T like specials. Some have even been down right rude! What I'm trying to find out is why? Have you had negative experience with a special? Do you feel unsafe when partnered with a special? Is it a feeling of superiority or elitism? Be honest.... What's your beef?

I'm a special just coming to the end of my probation. I'm pretty sure I have depression however I'm worried that if I go get help and get diagnosed I may be dismissed or stopped from doing duties. I don't feel it is affecting my performance or compromising me in anyway. In fact it's the only thing that's doing me any good really What are the policies around this? And what is the best thing to do?

Hi guys, Ive done a quick search but not found much. Due to do my first shift soon and was wondering if anyone had any advice? eg. get stuck in (fri-sat), take it easier (early morning), what kind of role do i take etc Any advice would be greatly received.....

Just been for a run in my boots issued by the BTP and christ my blister is huge! happened after only 15mins of running too! Any help on how to avoid these? thick boot socks? I was wearing sports socks and thought these would suffice
