Inspired by this news story, and by the recent 'slut-walks' in Toronto, I think it is worth discussing prevention of sexual offences. It seems to be a taboo to suggest that victims might sometimes contribute to the commission of a sexual act through how they present themselves (in both appearance and behaviour). I understand that the majority of sexual offences are premeditated to one degree or another, but let's just focus on opportunistic cases for the moment, eg. girls raped in dark alleys, or parks, or child abductions. The argument usually goes something like this: "You can't blame the victim for the behaviour of a sexual offender, the victim has the absolute right…

As a special, the majority of regulars I've met have been fantastic! Supportive, helpful & friendly. However, there has been the odd one or two that have made it very clear that they DON'T like specials. Some have even been down right rude! What I'm trying to find out is why? Have you had negative experience with a special? Do you feel unsafe when partnered with a special? Is it a feeling of superiority or elitism? Be honest.... What's your beef?

I'm a special just coming to the end of my probation. I'm pretty sure I have depression however I'm worried that if I go get help and get diagnosed I may be dismissed or stopped from doing duties. I don't feel it is affecting my performance or compromising me in anyway. In fact it's the only thing that's doing me any good really What are the policies around this? And what is the best thing to do?

Just been for a run in my boots issued by the BTP and christ my blister is huge! happened after only 15mins of running too! Any help on how to avoid these? thick boot socks? I was wearing sports socks and thought these would suffice

for training i got told that a special constable cannot interview without the required training however once in the real world i told i could do once i get used to it. what's the truth, do i need specialist training to do a standard interview, or was i just advised not to do?

Just wondered how many here have policing in their blood? Prior to WWI, my great grandfather wanted to join up as a PC but was rejected because he was flat-footed, so he kept his job as a Sexton and became a long-term Special Constable instead for a very long time, he was a Special Sergeant eventually I believe. My grandfather (his son) joined as a PC in 1950 after finishing post-war active service in the Balkans and Palestine, and served for 30 years, retiring as a Sergeant in 1980. He then worked as a civvy psychologist in the prison service until 1992.

Hi guys, hope everybody is doing good. I've just watched a programme on ITV1 about degrees and if they're worth it, looking at if you actually earn more in a lifetime after gaining a degree. They used an example of this one guy who got a good degree at Uni, but is now only an assistant manager at a local Boots store, where people who have just left school/college are around the same level as him without degrees. I've applied for various Policing degrees around the country, as I hope to get into the Police one day. I'll use the foundation degree at Preston (UCLAN) as an example. Would this degree actually be worth doing? Not so much for getting into the Police, but for…
