I have just read in Bike Magasine how two officers from my own beloved Kent pulled over the rider of a sports bike which had stalled pulling away from traffic lights. The officers accused the rider of attempting a wheelie and the rider replied that infact the bike was brand new, had done only the distance from the bike shop and that he was not used to riding it. One officer then asked the rider to explain why the bike display said it had 1035 miles on the clock. Rider replies "because that IS the clock and its 10:35!". Cue one very red-faced officer! Will anyone here admit to making embarrassing mistakes pointed out by punters on duty?

Not sure if this has been posted before (I couldn't find anything) but I was sent the link below today and its interesting reading. From what I can see it provides similar support to what regular officers may receive in the event of an injury or legal problem whilst on duty. Hi all, I'm watching "Hunting Britain's Most Wanted" on Channel 4 as I write this and it's really interesting. But I noticed several of the officers using their phones while driving. I just wondered if there are any exceptions to the whole "using a phone while driving" offence for officers in a situation like that? - the situation was that they were following a bus with an Albanian criminal onboard and lost site of the bus, so the officer following in the car rung one of the officers who hand boarded the bus previously to find out its whereabouts. Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of setting up an app for general police duties - I'm not too happy with what is already available so have started to make a new one. I plan to have the usual law / points to prove information, but also a few extra functions that I'd find useful on patrol. I just wanted to ask your opinions - is there anything in particular that you guys would find useful on an app like this? My aim is not to have a fancy shiny app - but a simple / easy to use cleanly laid out one that has the information that we need. I'm quite keen to hear if anyone has any desires for the app though? I've printed it off and stuck one on the fridge, one on my wall near my bed and one above my computer screen at work! I keep reading it every now and again. Anyone else got any interesting techniques? I can imagine that I'll end up saying it in my sleep! Can guarantee when it comes to my first arrest I'll go errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Fortunately I already know the phonetic alphabet very well!

I know a few police officers who tell me about how sometimes when they're on duty, they get offered free hospitality i.e. coffee. Now what, as police officers can and can't we accept? If a store owner offered me a free portion of chips, am I allowed to accept them or should I assess his intentions first? I know that if a citizen offered me money or some form of financial reimbursment then that's a big no-no. I'm not asking this so I purely know what I can accept, I naturally reject all forms of free hand-outs, but just for my knowledge, what can and can't we accept. Examples would be preffered

I know very little about technology, but assuming that they are actually breaking the law and committing offences as you suggest, then it's up to you. If you think that it's fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things and that it would be more in the public interest to just ask them to stop, then do so. If you feel that they should be prosecuted for whatever criminal offences it is that they've committed, then I'd recommend just reporting the matter to the police and (besides acting as a witness) staying out of it from there on in. The force concerned will then make a decision on whether or not to proceed.

I so want to stop and have words with the numpties who ride past me through red lights when I'm cycling to work, but then I think , magic all powerful badge aside... there are so many of them there is no point, I'll just wait till one of them gets creamed by a chav in a Corsa jumping the lights,...then I'll have words! Why do people generally stereotype police officers as having no friends and being bullied and out to seek revenge?

Did anyone see this? excellent telly and has some great insight into investigation techniques and how dna works. Worth a watch on the i-player.

What power do we use to put someone in the back of a police car to give: A) FPN for an offence B) A hort1 for failing to produce documents at road side To add, for a traffic offence or just a general stop. In addition, for just a general stop with no offence on the road. What can we do if someone fails to give details for s Hort1 (imagine we need to suspect a further offence, or is there a separate offence of failing to produce at the roadside anyway??)

Hi, I'm training with the Met at Havering. I understand that I need to complete 200 hours before recieving my warrant card, or corporate warrant card (if it has changed then enlighten me). However, does anybody know where exactly I can use the travel concession? Be specific with train routes please. Thank you.

Watched the highlights of the Home Secretary addressing the Police Federation. I must say, I was surprised to see PC David Rathband appearing. It was not long ago he was cutting into the Federation as being useless and not helping him. That is not the first time I have heard that being said by an injured officer, the Federation are hot and cold when it comes to helping officers injured on duty. It depends what Force you work for. I hope I do not upset any one by saying this but it does enter my mind when I hear my colleagues complaining of thier pay. Specials are on this site and you potenitally could be in as much danger as any Police Officer when out on the street…
