General Policing Discussions

Just wondering really if anyone has any knowledge of this? I've often wondered how things such as speeds are calculated etc. I know a lot of info comes from examination of the impacts on vehicles and such, and it goes very deep, but any basics will do. Even down to any basic rules about skidding, 'chalking up', measuring vehicle position etc. If i remember correctly you measure from each corner of the vehicle to a singe static point such as a grid? I could be wrong. In relation to chalking up, is it just a case of marking the 4 corners, or is it the wheels etc?

Got this from London, a Home less Rasta guy handing these out in Trafalgar sq. Wanted your view on this as Serving officers. I was going to block the names of the Offending officers out, but i figured its a document anyone can get hold of so why bother... I cant help thinking its a bit of an exaggeration, but maybe not. Hello all! I have sent my app, and while thinking about life as an SC would be like, I had a thought. Being a student and sharing a house with other students, there are people I know who use drugs, mostly cannabis, and I guess there is a chance they would bring it into my house when they visit. What do I if I suspect or know one of my friends or my house mates friends has bought something in? Anyone else had this problem? What would you do? Cheers!

Hi, back in March I was bitten by a dog as I walked my bicycle past a cavaran illegally parked at the side of a road. It was tied up next to the door of the caravan but was long enough for the dog to reach me as I walked past. I did not bark a warning and I had not noticed it otherwise I probably wouldn't have walked past it. The police were called after it bit me on the left hand and so were the paramedics. Hi, can anyone offer me any advice? I live just outside Manchester (N division if anyone here from GMP) over the last couple of weeks I've noticed that there are a couple of girls obviously working as street prostitutes ( pretty sure I'm right same two girls loitering in the same area walking up and down, they don't appear to be socialising or kids just hanging about) in an area not far from where I live. I am needing some help getting my head around some of the forms used when building a file, I have prepared a few files for simple offences where an admission has been made in interview and the custody sergeant was able to authorise a charge, however I have only ever prepared one file for CPS direct and only ever completed the form MG3 once, however I was assisted by a regular. All that I was told to do was type an MG5, the officer then simple copied and pasted the text from the mg5 and pasted it onto the circumstances section of the MG3. Something that came up in thisthread got me thinking..... what about the times an officer gets his law wrong? What advice would you give to a member of the public who was certain that they were told "that is illegal" or similar by a police officer when the officer is wrong and the member of the public knows this? In the scenario in the linked thread a PC took some handcuffs off someone because they were "illegal" - which we all know is clearly wrong. Now, I know this isn't meant as a legal advice centre - so sorry if this post seems to be centred as such. Last night at one of the youth centres I work at I was in the pool room upstairs with a few lads (about 5/6) and some of them kept going in to the hallway, making some noises and laughing. At the end of the evening I checked upstairs and found that there was a wet patch by the fire extinguisher - so it seems they had taken the safety pin out and started playing around. What are the different policies throughout the UK in relation to writing with a pencil in your notebook. It seems to me as if writing in pencil is a bad idea, but a few regulars do write in pencil.

I love how smart are the officers in tunics walking down the mall! They look great! All done up properly in their uniforms with their custodians/bowlers on! They look amazing! Proper British Policing! There were some officers in hi-vis near to the hotel, they looked nowhere near as good as those in tunics!

I often see on on a well known auction site (other sites are available) Custodian crests that are black instead of the usual silver. What are/were these for? cheers
