Hey there, Me and my friend were having a debate so my question to you is; Is it legal to carry around handcuffs with you, on the street for 'defence'? Don't see why you would want to but there we go... Cheers.

As a personal safety trainer (non-police) I am looking to move away from 'traditional' techniques to breakaway from an assailant. These generally involve complex psychmotor skills which are unrealistic, in my opinion. In any force on force altercation there's prob' about 3 or 4 to be relied upon. Presently looking at Tony Blauer's SPEAR system, thoughts on this, or indeed, OST training in general would be appreciated. Thanks. Here's a couple of links for perusal:

Hello I'm an Assistant Producer with production company Off The Fence. I am researching a potential documentary following the dual lives of Special Constables - at home , in day jobs and as police officers. We would like to raise the profile of the work specials do but there is a preconception (falsely) that this is a very quiet and uneventful role. I wonder if anyone has any retrospective stories of recent incidents they have dealt with and if anyone works outside of neighbourhood teams - for example with PSU or plain clothed? Code G of PACE states we must have a neccessity to arrest. COPPLAN+ outlines this but can you give me some examples for each one? I know most people I see in custody give the prompt and effective investigation so when would you use the others? Investigation Dissapearance Child Obstruction to highway Prevent injury Public decency Loss or damage Address not know Name not known + Prompt & Effective Investigation Obstruct police by not giving details or faulse ones - Necessity being "A or N" from COPPLAN?

Ive seen a few posts that mention some forces require officers to retire after 30 years service, no matter what rank it seems as one of the retirees was an Inspector. Is this common in UK forces. seems a harsh way of thanking someone who has been a police officer for three decades and is possibbly only in their late 40s or early 50s. "thanks for your 30 years of serving and protecting the public, now have fun on the pension and maybe you can get a job as a security guard to pay the bills"

How often do people on here "call things in" ? I (like a typical Englishman!) don't like to cause a fuss over things, butrecently I've had cause to call quite a few things in to the force control room(maybe I just live in a dodgy area) Now as a serving special I always encouragepeople to call anything suspicious in to the force control room, but am alwaysa little hesitant to do so myself because I know how jobs get graded and that staffing isnt great. Just wondering does anyone else feel like this? (I know I shouldnt but often do!)

I've noticed now, a lot of 60/11 plated cars have lights on all the time, like these horrible rubbishy LEDs. Most look like cheap christmas trees with a smattering of LED lights plastered all over the front. Hello all, Ive just signed up (finally) to this forum, but have spent a lot of time reading on here so I thought I might pick your brains over something ... On Friday night I was on patrol around the clubs. We came across an illegal hot dog vendor who had already been told to leave the area twice and told to bin the food then go (which he returned from the bin and carried on cooking it several minutes later). We did the same thing (made him ditch the food including the box of pre-cooked sausages in a dirty cardboard box under the trolley) then go which I think he did as he had nothing left to sell.
