Having now finished my gourmet tour of all the Olympic feeding sites I can honestly say this is some of the best operational feeding I have ever had. The food is overall really good quality, there is great choice on offer including healthier options and the staff have all been really friendly and helpful. I give it a week!

I've just reached IPS as a Special.I have been able to do this with the massive help of two PC's, both who are wanting to go for their skippers. One acts up a lot of the time already. I'm wanting to write a note which can go on their files, which may in some way go towards helping them in their application. Can anyone advice on any points to prove which I should try and cover which would make the note as valuable as possible?

just looking for some opinions here. if you had to justify the use of force would you use "common law", "criminal law act 1967", or "P.A.C.E"? im guessing that it more or less depends on the situation.

Here is a question I have when comparing tactics used by US police and UK police... America (Bay area, San Francisco) Called to a theft in progress at 3am. 4 units are called but we are first on scene by a good minute. Sirens used only once at a busy intersection when crossing on red, otherwise no sirens. When turning into the street where the theft if occurring, all roof bar lights and car lights turned off and engine speed kept low. We creep up to the scene and the two men are spotted from a distance. Exit vehicle quietly. Men didn't even hear us approach. Compare that to... Lots of UK examples (one in particular) Called to a burglary in progress, reported by ADT. …

Just out of curiousity, apart from liaise with the coroner, what does the coroner liaison officer actually do?

Has anyone visited this? For a while now I've been vaguely thinking about organising a trip for some of the specials in my force but have never actually done anything about it. I understand that it's small and not a museum in the conventional sense. However, I was wondering what the curator offer in terms of visits. According to the Met's website it's used as a lecture theatre for various topics, but is there a sort of show-and-tell of the exhibits that is given to groups of visiting officers? Similarly, I haven't found a point of contact on the website. If anyone has e.g. an e-mail address I could contact and would be prepared to PM me (or to e-mail it to my police…

I've been browsing through the forum and I've noticed that a few people on here have said that they don't have a locker, and that they take home their airwave radio and utility belt. In terms of that, is it allowed to take your airwave home and utility belt? Does that mean you can arrive to the station in full uniform, ready to go?

Hello all. My name is David. I'm a former special constable (Strathclyde Police) and a current research student at the University of Abertay Dundee. I'm looking to recruit both current and former special constables of all genders and length of service to take part in a research project that I'm currently doing. Essentially, I'm interested in the extent to which the human ability to detect deception is innate or learned. As such, individuals such as yourselves who have extensive training and experience in dealing with deceptive people are the perfect candidates to assist me in determining this. To take part, you need only watch a 30 second video clip and fill out a s…

How open to abuse is this going to be! You'll be having all the Mr Walts dressing up and travelling around London for Free. Surely all TfL staff should be instructed to see military ID's?? A nice gesture by TfL towards our military personnel though. Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced that all military personnel working in the capital to deliver the London 2012 Games will be able to travel for free on all Transport for London (TfL) services. The decision, which is a way of saying thanks to the Service personnel who will help in many different roles during the Olympics, comes into force tomorrow. Free travel will be offered to all military personnel in uniform …

http://www.met.police.uk/foi/pdfs/disclosure_2012/march_2012/2012020001363.pdf Anyone else seen this? There are so many no showers for months and half are not completing monthly hours. I wonder if this is the same nation wide? Does anyone else have the same details for other forces?

I seem to notice a lot of Specials joining up are doing duties and immediately wanting to drive and forgetting about other important factors. It is getting to a point with me that I'm starting to think about volunteering to go and take statements. But I've noticed withothers I think some seem to forget that there will be a time where they are being asked to do witness statements (be it their own or from someone else) without much training in how to do them (bar the basics of what to include), now because I've only ever done statements for myself I asked about and there are no courses for how to write a decent witness statement (victim etc). Due to this course non exitence…

Hi all, Quick question came to mind while watching Motorway Cops. A van driver was stopped on suspicion of using a phone while driving (seen by police officers at his right ear) After questioning it was admitted that a phone was in the persons hand but now he doesn't know where the phone is as he threw it away. After looking in the van no phone could be found, and the person stopped offered for the officers to search him. The officer then stated he doesn't have the power to? I was of the belief that the power to search was to aid and gather evidence to a prompt and effective investigation. So in this case it would be beneficial to find a phone to prove beyond any …

I was wondering has anyone ever compiled a list of famous Specials? a few I know of are Isambard Kingdom Brunel Prince Napolean and of course Reginald Christie at the risk of getting loads of stupid responses does anyone know any more?

Just wondering if specials go to inform family members of a death and If so what was it like (How did you feel) when you had to tell someone for the first time if it's not too personal.
